The same verbal reply I got from PBTech when I preordered.

20W NZ Fast Charger

Most generic chargers are 10W (5V 2A). This would imply that it's the OPPO fast charger from PB - that's what they've included in the past, but I guess we won't know until someone actually gets one.

I was seriously considering it for the camera upgrade from the OP5, but although good, the telephoto side of it is a bit of a damp squid. Am looking to do away with my point and shoot, so I just have the DSLR and the phone. But I think I'll pass on this one.

Nokia 6110, 6210, 6234, Sony Ericsson XPERIA X1, Huawei Ideos X5 (Windows Mobile), Samsung Galaxy SIII, LG G4, OnePlus 5, iPhone Xs Max (briefly), S21 Ultra. And I thought I hadn't had many phones - but the first one around 1997.

I was going to preorder the other day but the negative reviews are starting to come out hard and fast now that people have been using them for a couple of weeks. Think I'll hold off for a while longer and see what happens when the early adopters settle in.

If I believe on the verbal communication, PBTech sales rep said that this 20W charger will be in addition to whatever comes in the box.

What reviews? The ones I've seen really love it, aside from a middle of the range camera of course.

Test unit of the OnePlus 7 Pro finally landed on my desk last night. It's been a while since I've been blown away by a new phone. That 90Hz 1440p OLED screen is next level. I expect to see high refresh rates everywhere next year (honestly I expected them everywhere last year), it's immediately noticeable and makes everything else seem slow and stuttery in comparison.

The best thing about it is the high speed charging. I wish other companies would get that sorted. Even Fast Charge on my S10+ is slow in comparison - and my wife's iPhone 7 is positively glacial.

I've been a refresh rate enthusiast for some time (even if my home monitor caps out at 90Hz). After being bullish on high refresh rates for mobile when the first Razer Phone launched, it didn't hit the mass market as early as expected. I spent some time with the Razer Phone 2 and was shocked at how little impact its 120Hz display had, that thing is a big ugly squared brick with a dim IPS display. Yet here on the OnePlus 7 Pro with its Samsung 1440p OLED panel it's instantly noticeable, everything is faster, I can sit there swiping down the notification drawer and oogling the smoothness. Makes everything else I have on hand (P30 Pro, S10+, LG V40 etc) seem stuttery in comparison. Scrolling lists and webpages is spectacular. I'd be surprised if this wasn't standard within 12-18 months. Highly recommend having a look in person when demo units land at retail after the 7th.

Pair that with the expected top-end featureset of 4000mAh battery, versatile triple camera array, gobs of storage and RAM, and the truly excellent Snapdragon 855 chip that NZ unfortunately misses out on for Galaxy S, and it's a pretty potent combo. Oxygen OS is great software as always, pairing the best of vanilla with many useful additions and zero unnecessary bloat.

The fingerprint scanner is of the latest generation ala P30 Pro, which are to my mind the first that are actually usable as a primary means of biometric authentication. The first few generations of these things were dire and regressive technology, far worse than the standard capacitive scanners, this gen is reliable and fast. The pop-up camera is eye-catching and head-turning, a pretty elegant solution until we get to viable mass production of cameras under displays (as OPPO and Xiaomi have just teased).

This is hands-down the fastest smartphone I have ever used, and when we're dealing with fairly incremental hardware upgrades year on year as the industry trends towards maturity, it's saying something that that's noticeable - it's more than noticeable.

I intend to switch over as soon as I can get my hands on one for more than the essential evaluation/certification period (there's a lot that goes into launching a phone).

Dam, sounds like you're a huge fan then. How do you find the camera in comparison to the S10 and P30? Everything I read and see with comparison videos shows it to be really average, have you thrown a GCam port on it?

I like the P30 Pro's camera a lot, but it has the occasional autofocus issue and there are colour balance differences between the lenses - totally unrivalled in low light mind you and to my mind the one to beat if you want the best smartphone camera right now.

The S10's camera isn't my cup of tea beyond the introduction of ultrawide, I'm hopeful we'll see a big leap come the next Note.

As for the 7 Pro, couldn't tell you just yet as this unit was in and out, we had to spend more time taking photos of it than taking photos with it. Looking forward to switching over to it as a daily driver to really put it through its paces, reportedly the latest OTA brings major camera improvements too. I used the OnePlus 6 for a while last year and enjoyed it, but missed my V30 a lot. The OnePlus 7 Pro finally feels ready to go toe-to-toe with the best of the best.

When a global version which supports all of NZ's 4G bands is available, absolutely yes. No ETA at this stage mind you.

That product is a slightly different class of device, more akin to the OnePlus tactics of old rather than squaring up with the super-premium, so it depends what people are buying for. Looking forward to seeing where it goes, and I'm hoping it's a step up from the Pocophone, which really was not at all my cup of tea despite the spec.

It's interesting to see just how much of the flagship experience can drop down several price tiers, and what stays in the upper realms unless you buy last year's flagship discounted. To some extent I expect it will become like televisions, where the super-pricey top models have all of these excellent features that are extremely difficult to market and communicate to punters who just want a big screen at a low price. Makes the high end almost niche by design. And that's reflected here too. The most popular, best-selling smartphones in New Zealand are models which appeal to and are purchased by people who just need a new phone and wouldn't dream of seeking out a specific discussion forum to talk about their phone choice with fellow enthusiasts.

Demo units of the OnePlus 7 Pro will be in PB stores this week.
