heavenlywild: Keen too.

Seeing AU is stocking it does that mean 5G support in NZ?

Looks like the AUS price ($999) is much higher than the US price ($599), even accounting for conversion (should be more like $799)

gcorgnet: Looks like B&H lets me pre order a pixel 6 from the US.
Is there any reason I shouldn't be doing that?

Yes, I see this now but I swear when I first simulated purchase from my phone on B&H it looked like it was going to ship to NZ. Not sure what happened there.
Would Youshop be an option?
Are there any issues with Bands?

I'm kinda more excited about seeing all the voice & translations features, neat to see things actually being improved there in big ways.

As well as camera's capture of skin tones finally being addressed. (though their marketing vid made me roll eyes somewhat)

Newshub:

Parallel imported phones are unlikely to offer the full features that phones supported by local carriers offer, including 5G connectivity.

The above quote is from Newshub article. I'd be damned if 5G isn't supported. I like to keep my phone for longer than a few years these days so expecting to not have 5G for next 2-3 years  would be disappointing.

Also, does anyone know if getting someone ship you a Pixel from Australia (friend as a gift?) gets you a customs import duty as well? I have a few friends and really willing to order one in the next few days if I can confirm the thing with customs.

Thank you

It would be over the 1000$ threshold so if customs inspect the package closely, you're likely to be required to pay a pretty hefty fee. They might not, but it's definitely a gamble. Perhaps with postage so jammed up, it's a risk worth taking.

I'd personally be prepared to take that gamble, but my bigger concern is if the device suffers from an in (or out) of warranty fault. Google hardware is not known for being long-lasting / fault-free, and even if my friends would do me a favor (and they would) in purchasing the device, their top priority is probably not sitting around waiting for a courier to arrive/facilitating the return, in the event of needing service.

It's such a shame Google will not sell here officially. I don't care about 5G but I do want a local retailer to purchase from..

That is Googles Business Model, I was a bit of a fan back in the day but no more, they scatter gun S%$t out onto the market if it takes it may last if it doesn't your left holding the baby.  Same goes for supporting countries the fact Australia may as well be on Mars and why New Zealand is not part of the distribution for Oceania is mind boggling but was forgivable when it first happened several years ago  but not no more, Google just don't give a S%$t as I doubt be more the profit dial very much.

I've got my brother over in Australia to get me a Pixel 6 Pro from JB HiFi.  They're shipping on the 28th of this month.  It also comes with a free Google Nest Audio.  I could have had him order off the Google Store, which comes with a $150 credit.  I'm not gonna lie, it's going to be a bit hard on the wallet dealing with the customs duty/GST, but I'm hoping he will be claiming back the GST over there, so I'll be paying him the $1299AUD, minus whatever Australian GST has been added to that.  NZ Customs "what's my duty estimator" is showing import GST of about $210, so I might not have to pay much more than another $100 all up (including shipping).  That's comparable with other high end phones being sold here.  I understand the risks involved with warranty returns etc, but I'm willing to take it.  No 5G, no worries - I'm on 2Degrees and who knows when they are rolling out their 5G network anyway.  And you never know, by the time it's here, my phone might be able to connect.

I've really enjoyed my Pixel 5 (which I got from Oz as well), but I'm really looking forward to the extra screen real estate on the Pixel 6 Pro.

Depends. I have a Japan market pixel 5g with more bands than US market purchased last week. I'm on Spark. So far have not seen 5G or 3G symbol. Not investigated yet due to work pressure.

In my case must have pixel and there seems to be lots of 4G so nice to have only.

Surely the Aussie one would be compatible here on 4g and 5g?

All of the Pixel 6 variants support all NZ bands.

It's just a matter of is 5G enabled on our carriers in this model in the firmware and additionally what else is going to work.

You'll get 4G no issues.

Bands are listed here so yeah 4G would be fine but 5G? VoLTE? Will have to see what happens when someone puts a sim in it :)

There was some talk on the first page I think it was about Google finally offering 5 years of support for OS. Umm yes and no...

"We build Pixel phones to get better over time with software and feature updates, so starting with Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro Pixels will now receive security updates for at least 5 years. Users will still get at least 3 years of OS updates, after which we’re committing to ensure that Pixels will stay up-to-date and secure."
