Anyone here having problems  with Samsung phone retaining the Vax pass to stay on their home screen??   My wife and I have new Galaxy  52s 5G phones and the passport is in Google Pay and I can add it to the home screen but next day it is gone and you have  to put it back again and so on.  Consumer NZ had a article about setting this up and several people there have had the same problem.

Yeah it happened on my phone. Firmly believe it is related to having Smart Unlock function activated on phone. It is activated on my phone and shortcut to pass keep disappearing. My wife has same model phone but doesn't use Smart Unlock and her pass is still on home screen.

The workaround is to put shortcut to Google Pay app on home screen.

Thanx for the info. Yes I've put Google Pay on the home screen.

larknz: I have the same problem on my Samsung Z Fold 3, but I haven't tried to do anything about it yet.

On my Fold3 I tried to set up a multi screen with the Covid tracer app and vax cert open at the same time. It would multiscreen okay but wouldn’t allow me to save it to the edge panel. Probably a a security feature for GPay.
In the end I cropped the emailed pdf down to the small info panel and saved it as a png file. I used it on my Galaxy Watch 4 and now have it to open in a file manager beside my tracer app on my phone. And the combo can be saved to edge panel. I did it so when I scan in on the tracer app the cert is there right beside it ready to be inspected/scanned.

I have smart unlock active so that might explain why the Google Pay shortcut keeps disappearing.

As far as I’m aware, Air New Zealand are going to allow you to link your vax cert into their App. So it will be like Gyms are doing, where you’ll need to verify it once and the it will be linked to your ‘membership’. Not sure if it will transfer to international flying though. But then that’s a different cert anyway.

Makes sense.  I've been skimming AirNZ's comms but hadn't picked that up.

The gym I use are deploying a different coloured pass for vaccinated people.  So once that they your vaccination details registered, you simply wave the [colour] pass and bypass checking.

Anyone else (the building has a pool, indoor sports and several businesses) will have to have their pass checked by reception.

I would have thought they would check the vaccine pass at checkin time rather than when boarding. I guess they will need to update their kiosks if they do indeed do it at checkin. Will be interesting to see how they handle it.

A lot of people check-in online, but maybe they will revert to check-in at airport.  I hope not.  Spending more time at the airport is not an ambition of mine.

Yep but online checkin will be covered by the interface to their app.

Well what a fun time my partner and I have had since the release of the vaccine passport. Over this period we have, including ourselves, partially or fully carried out; registrations, installs & laminated credit card size paper copies for 15 family and friends. It was a bit of a learning curve when it came to the variety Android phones, being Apple centric, but we got there. We have also installed on our own iPhones the Pass Scanner to check the Passes especially the credit size laminated copies.

The big problem was those with Android who did not have Google Pay. Then they did not have any mail set up on their phone. Then when they/we did set it up or went to their mail via browser server side web mail, we often found the two (Apple Wallet & Google Pay) download/install icons were all grey or pink.

One problem was couples who only had one email address between them as the registrations wanted separate email addresses. So gmail etc must of had an influx of new sign-ups or another was they weren't reading the instructions fully and not clicking on the verification email within 20 minutes. My sister-n-law had 8 of those and still wondered why things did not work.

Another big problem/mistake was they were trying to install the pdf form.

One relative only had a work set up iPhone with only work email address (all very tightly controlled), so when we went to forward his vaccine pass from his personal Windows desktop gmail address his work email server blocked it. We solved it by signing in on his work phone to the gmail via browser web gmail.

And of course there was the problem, especially with Android, of messy/untidy multiple screens just chock full of app icons etc and when Google Pay asks to set up a screen icon for the pass, trying to find it was a nightmare. (Ahhhhhh)

The surprise was one set of relatives in their mid 80's, who do not have mobiles, just rang the 0800 number and all done and dusted in 10 minutes.

But all done 😷

Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.

Easy to solve with gmail: add a "+covid" and you have a unique email that goes to the original:

sample+covidmum@gmail.com is the same as sample+coviddad@gmail.com - both will go to sample@gmail.com

The messy home screen is not an Android problem.

I've added the pass to Stocard and Google Pay on my Samsung M51 and to Apple Wallet on my iPhone.  It was all very easy/simple/worked as it should.

It's also possible to save a pdf file onto your home screen in Android, so you may not need a payment app at all, if the QR scales OK when opened as a PDF.

I put the Passport on my  lock screen  so that I don't have to go and open it up  from Google Pay each day.

I've noticed the home screen icon keeps disappearing for me too - Galaxy A52s. Not using smart lock though, just face & fingerprint.
