I bought my LG from DSE as a 2d package and got a sim an $60 credit that I didn't even know about until the guy rang it up on the till! Best phone I've had in ages for the price!

Just remember, no matter what anyone buys, get the best resolution screen for the money! it makes a huge diffence to the availability of apps in the android market!

Some good info there, and some points to consider. It's some sort of deal with his vodafone account that he gets a certain amount of credit towards a new phone. I'll have to look at the details, might be worth switching him to 2D if they have a better deal and suitable plan anyways.
I don't think apps will be a big priority but it's worth knowing about.
Has anybody got experience using the GPS funtionality overseas? More specifically, Europe?

Rocky80: thought mine was updated but it wasn't. trying to do it now but same as you, stuck on 4% and phone is in emergency mode.

errrr, any ideas any one?

Went to upgrade from v10a to v10c which failed. The phone is now in Emergency Mode. Called LG who talked me through a reset using home, volume down, power but that didn't work even after battery was removed. They and 2degrees want me to return to Dicksmith as it is still under warrenty.

Anyone got any ideas on how to get it back to normal so it doesn't have to be sent away ?!

You could put a custom ROM on it from there, but then your warranty wouldn't work anyway... XDA-developers is a good place to find these things...

I got my P500 at the GZPE in Auckland :D I also bought my wife one recently (Free on a 2 year contract)

Some thoughts.

- I'm now running Linux as my primary desktop. Havn't found LG PC Suite equivalent for the PC.
- Had to grab the PC Suite from a UK download site I found via Google as it wasnt supplied.
- Upgrading using the shipped/recommended software shortly after getting it stopped the 'Car Mode' app from Rotating (so it's always oriented vertically). Havnt found a fix for that yet.
- I have a fairly large contact list (say 300 entries) and I find it frequently sluggish to navigate/edit contacts, ive also found recently that it's generally sluggish with call handling; hanging up calls can cause the phone to freeze up for half a minute or more.
- supplied car kit is excellent, though you obviously cant use the gel cases if you use the molded car window mount.
- I use Generic (spring/squeeze) phone holders with ease.
- For the price plenty of good features.
- I have run out of on-board phone storage. There's only so many apps you can move to the SD card, so I have hit a bottleneck in terms of apps I can have simultaneously installed. This is annoying.
- Was surprised you cant do custom SMS sounds on a per-contact basis without third party software. I'm doing this now, but it's imperfect... that could be a layer 8 fault on my part though.
- Bluetooth and Wifi both work reasonably well but I do sometimes have to disable and re-enable them to get them to play nice.
- Very easy to deplete battery life to sub-1-day. I run with 3G disabled frequently (have a widget on my frontscreen to turn it on and off). I also grabbed another USB/Charging cable and can charge it off my work computer during the day if necessary.
- OEM Email app is pretty good but has two major bugs:
--- Exchange connector drops its sync, freezes up and requires a manual resync. Blew my bandwith limit the first month before I realised what it was doing and resigned myself to only (re)syncing via Wifi (and subsequently didnt need Exchange connectivity any more anyway)
--- IMAP support is buggy; emails you delete aren't actually deleted server-side. I'm using Maildroid at the moment.
- OEM Charging Adaptor has a Capacitor Whine.
- OEM Charging Cable became intermittant at the phone-end after only a few months of typical use. Picked up a replacement (Nokia branded, ironically) via Trademe for $0.90 + shipping. Can also use the charger adaptor supplied with my wifes old (dead) SonyEriccson device, which doesn't whistle.
- Generally happy with it given the price-vs-features balance. With money no object i'd buy a more grunty handset.

xlinknz, have a look at xda (the link I posted above) they have all sorts of ways to un-brick your phone. Some even use the factory firmware.

You shouldn't lose your warranty if you unbrick with factory firmware... you just say nothing and keep using your working phone...

And I sorta thought that was your 1st question when you asked

10a was 2.2, 10b was 2.2.1. No idea what c was as it all went downhill from b

2.3 is gingerbread... heaps of improvements to Android

2.3 is available for p500, but not in NZ. (ver 20something)
"It sucks" was the verdict though, because LG really didn't want to put it on this device but the response from end-users was overwhelming.
Basically, they did a half-hearted, lazy job (icons in notification bar that didn't even line up) and it wrecked things that worked fine.
All of which is why the phone has such a big user-base on XDA... those developers care, so they fixed all LGs bugs... and then some!

I dont even use mine anymore, since I bought a sensation (and put a custom rom on that within a day), but it still is a fantastic phone for the price, made much better by other developers and 3rd-party ROMS!
