dontpanic42: The Ascend D quad XL, which comes with a 2500mAh battery has certainly caught my attention.
I currently have an IDEOS X5, and for the price at the time, it is a pretty capable device.

If Huawei can price the Ascend quad XL competitively (i.e below $900-$1000), it could be a real contender.

I will now only consider a device if it has an unlocked bootloader, how is that companies track record in that regard?

Funny you should mention that.
My IDEOS X5 originally had an unlocked bootloader when I bought it, but I have recently updated it to the new 2.3.5 official Huawei update as a pre-requisite to loading an ICS port over top (for the new .35 linux kernel).
The official Huawei 2.3.5 update subsequently locked the bootloader as part of the installation.
It's a slap in the face, but not a biggie really, as it's easy enough to root and replace the recovery with a CWM using Root Explorer.

Apparently they locked it because a few "beta" versions of the 2.3.5 upgrade they put out were bricking devices. I'm not sure how that would stop devices from being bricked, but there ya go.
It still would have been nice for them to let people do what they want with their device.

I suppose the obvious issue here is that they were putting out software upgrades that were bricking phones, and also nulling IMEI numbers. A bit of a worry.

Back on topic though.

Another Huawei that is looking promising is the MediaPad 10.
It looks like a competitor to the Prime, but time will tell whether it can stand up against the Tegra3.

Yes, I know it's not Android, but three years before, here at home:

Do Acer Unlock bootloaders? They have some fairly compelling devices.
