downloadad and am 1/2 way thru "optimizing app" stage. FFFFF so slow. Longer than the download and upgrade combined.

Ok so thats done finally.

Good:

Clock in notification bar when you pull it down, so you dont have to push it up to see the time.

Bad:

Still no nice list in the app drawer
Still no clock in notification bar on home screen, so if I want the time have to enable the stupid big clock.
Music player controls mean I have to enable notifications on lock screen, even with content hidden still has content I dont want shown on a locked phone.
Wifi connected still appears ontop of the apps sometime after it has connected. Not several mins like before, but not immediate.
It forgot all but 2 of my saved wifi passwords.
task switch button seems even slower than before.
twice have had nothing show on the homescreen for a very long time already. That usually only happened once a week at worst.

Seems decent so far, not many overt changes. Transitions are smoother, not sure if this is responsible for the apparent speed increase, but suspect it is part of it.

I've gone from having those problems frequently, to them being resolved.

My only gripe so far is that the brightness slider in the notification panel comes and goes, whereas it used to always be gone because I use Lux Dash to manage the brightness.
If anyone knows any non-root way to get rid of that, and the S finder / quick connect crap from the notifications, I'll be rather grateful

I will give it a couple of reboots later today and see if that helps it, but its done nothing to fix the major shortcomings the note 4 has over the 3 in daily use that stops me really from using it as my only phone.

At least there is a clock and music buttons with the scover closed, but thats a pain to use that way in the car since the holder stops me from opening and closing the scover 1 handed.

It definitely seems snappy, but still a fair bit of lag when going from camera to gallery.

Lag which has been there since I've had the Note 4 (not introduced by 5.1.1)

Yeah you are right, that camera to gallery switch has always been horrible.
I have noticed a few other minor things - the wireless charging toast message now warns the S-Pen may not function correctly whilst charging now. Never used to.
Someone else complained there was no clock in the notification bar I think? There is and always has been, so not sure if I read his feedback right.
I'm not using the stock launcher (using Google Launcher) so won't notice any other homescreen changes if any.
I understand the S6's got the option to remove S Finder and Quick Connect from the Notification shade on 5.1.1, but that doesn't seem to have been done for the Note (without root). If anyone realises you can (and how), please say.

The notification bar clock used to disappear when you pulled it down, meaning you had nothing to compare the timestamps on the notifications too without sliding it back up.

Also, lock the phone. Clock disappears from notification bar. Inconsistancy is bloody annoying. Its now on the left when pulling down the notification bar, instead of the right. WHY? FFS

Yeah ok, you are right - I did notice this when I first got the phone and I had learned to ignore it - you've just brought it all back... agreed - inconsistent.

I had been ready to smash my Note 4 to bits (constant "Bluetooth has stopped" let alone the far worse "Unfortunately Google Play has stopped" that you would push ok for and less than one minute later was back. No solution found in weeks of net searching and trying different things inc cache wipes, resets and app deletions). Installed the update and Wham not one issue since. Love my Note 4 again.

Yeah I was getting an error when updating apps on the previous firmware. It would often leave a notification permenemtly stuck on updating an app (even if the app updated) - was Google Play Srevices or somethign similar and I always had to force close. That has been fixed with the 5.1.1. Never had bluetooth issues though.

Hm, i have always had a bluetooth issue - not sure if others have seen similar behaviour. When I have my bluetooth headset connected and I make a phone call, for about 1 second (when the phone call starts ringing), the bluetooth output is selected. But after about 1 second, it changes to the phone earpiece. I have to press the bluetooth button to select the headset. This is actually quite annoying. It also causes issue during things like viber or whatsapp phone calls over bluetooth.

This behaviour is seen about 90% of the time. I get luck 10% and the bluetooth connects seamlessly and all phone calls are via the bluetooth headset.

I managed to listen to an entire song over bluetooth in the car with non dropouts.

And apps are updating again. No crap about storage even tho it has half a gig free.

Scrolling is a lot smoother too. Still not as good as the note 3 but the judderyness is way reduced.

I don't use bluetooth for calls. I do use it for smartwatches (no issues) and for audio. Music is fine, but I have had (on previous firmware) repeated evidence of video performance being impacted by having audio over bluetooth - eg Youtube. Weird - doesn't make sense - but disconnect the headphones and video streams smooth again. Never robustly tested it to be 100% sure though. Will see at some point if that is still an issue on 5.1.1.
