Just a reminder for those eligible for the watch who pre-ordered or purchased before the 31st May (or 26th May, not sure), tomorrow/14th is the last day to redeem via their website.

BTW, have people noticed for those buying now they're offering both Free Buds Lite and the watch? The pre-order bonuses etc are obviously non existent and the handset subsidies are less, still I wonder if Huawei would be offering both the buds and watch were it not for the US actions and the uncertainty/concern they created.

I think it would definitely be due to the US action.

Looks like a Huawei laptop launch has been canned as well due to the restrictions.

Where do Huawei go from here? Fairly sure no one outside China really has any appetite for another OS.

Yeah the availability of apps is the real killer, it’s already bad enough with Tizen and Android Wear compared to the availability of apps available on Android. Huawei would have to have an almost immediate large chunk of the mobile market using their new OS to persuade the developers to create the apps and even then it takes time.

Didn't I read that their new OS can run Android apps? The main issue is anything using play services won't run correctly.
I've seen 2 main stories on their OS one is based on AOSP Android the other is based off sailfish os and has backing from a Russian company.

The AOSP name of the new OS seems to be Ark OS and reported to be released with the mate 30 pro.

If it ends up being AOSP then all they need is their own app store and devs to put their apps in it. Otherwise people could use apk mirror website

Huawei's replacement OS to replace Google Android.
Named Ark OS(Hongmeng OS in China)

Apparently confirmed
https://mspoweruser.com/huawei-to-launch-its-android-alternative-confirms-huaweis-vice-president/

And the P30 pro maybe one of the first phones to receive it.

I don't what your thoughts are but if the US government had concerns before at least they had some form of sight of what was happening via Google Android now they have simultaneously given Google a headache and lost visablity of the OS and ultimately if this works out for Huawei other companies may join them e.g. Samsung.

What a masterpiece of deficient thinking Donald.

That would be interesting but I don't know, it's the app that are the linchpin we know even a company like Microsoft couldn't get Windows Phone over the line due to the investment people and developers have in either the Playstore or Apples App store.

Ark OS will be an Android Fork so should run Android Apps, that said if Huawei can pull a rabbit out of the hat at enable Android apps to run without to much of a performance hit under Linux that would be a game changer.

Yep, reportedly just security. Was looking forward to the touted camera, display and fingerprint/face ID improvements but will have to wait until .178 now for those it seems

Automatically installed overnight on mine without my knowledge.

Only known about it when I woke up late because the phone didn't play the alarm.  Then I saw the firmware updated message.

Got to work one hour late.
