Jvipers2: Anyone have Bluetooth frequently disconnected after the latest Android 16 update?

Not seeing that here. In fact, for my constant glucose monitor I am seeing an improvement in Bluetooth pairing.

Like all phones it's annoying the OS provides no way to set the charging speed without going to extreme lengths. I just don't need superfast or even fast charging most of the time and the heat and battery life reduction that comes with that.

I picked up a 5W wireless charging pad from Kmart. Perfect. No more fast charging and no more heat.

I usually end the day somewhere between 20 and 40%. Pixel 8 Pro is fully charged in the morning on the 5W pad.

If you care about battery life, why not set the phone to only charge to a maximum of 80%  (I believe its built into the settings - but I don't know for sure on stock.  This works on GrapheneOS

Also, TANSTAFL - charging pads - even 5w ones generate a lot more heat then plugging it in to a regular charger.  Unfortunately plugging it in frequently risks damaging the phone port over time :(

The 5W pad method generates almost zero heat compared to USB rapid charging believe me!

I do use the Android 16 built-in 80% switch. It's a nice feature.

My next mission is finding a 5W charging stand for my desk. The lowest all seem to be 2x10W. Also I need to use swipe up while it's on the stand. That's not easy to find. I easily get through the day without charging so I don't really need a desk trickle charger stand just nice to have. My non-powered stand is perfect otherwise. I might DIY something with another Kmart 5W pad if I can be bothered.

Your can always get the 10W stand and connect it to an old USB-A charger that gives you only 5W

Good suggestion. Not an option for several reasons. I use only USB-C PD on the desk. Mains power multiboard is at capacity. Separately, none of the 2x10W phone stands I've seen have enough space for easy swipe up from the bottom. It's a hard one and not something I really need to solve.

Samsung lets you choose low speed charge. Otherwise I just use an older charger. I also use a small fan I got from Amazon to keep the phone cool while fast charging, but the S25 doesn't get near as hot as the pixel did.

I miss Google keyboard enhanced voice typing, otherwise I prefer the Samsung. It's much faster than the pixel

I just picked up one of these charging pads after seeing your post. Works well and was able to revive 2 phones with damages charging ports. It does get warm. I presume the heat is generated from the induction coils more than the battery.

Are you sure you got the 5W version?

My local branch often has mixed up items on the display hooks.

I use mine on a flat surface easily gets airflow. Although to be fair it's darn cold at the moment maybe I missed what you're seeing. In any case, 5w worth rather than 15w+ is definitely helpful.

Oh, I have a Spigen case thickness might be limiting charge a bit as well and providing some gap maybe. A good thing from my perspective.

Ha, yes Kmart had all sorts of accessories on wrong hooks.

The phone was turned on for the first time in a while, so it was downloading updates, syncing data etc while it was charging which might have been why it was a bit warm.

I am currently using iphone 12pro, Ive stopped the yearly phone upgrade and have been holding off as much as possible . I’ve almost bought the iphone 14pro, 15 pro,16pro and pixel 8 pro and 9 pro but somehow i managed to overcome the temptation lol and my last pixel phone was the original and last android phone was galaxy S10. My question is how do you guys find the pixel 8 or pixel 9 pro models? specially in terms of battery, hardware reliability and 5G connectivity? I’m currently looking at buying either iPhone 17pro or pixel 10 pro since ive held off this long. My slight disappointment on the two upcoming phones is that they won’t arrive with the 2nm chip but i suppose coming from iPhone 12pro will definitely feel the significant upgrade in terms of hardware advancement and OS smoothness, although my galaxy S10 broke during covid so not sure how much android OS has evolved. I’ve moved to Melbourne since the end of last year (although i still come to Auckland quite regularly) therefore obtaining a pixel phone won’t be as difficult anymore. Any opinions would be welcome.

The 7a that I bought from Japan (that worked across all 3 carriers with everything working) stopped me from going back to iOS full time.

I now own a 9 Pro XL and it's a phone that I cannot kill in a day (unless I really really try) and it is one of the best Android phones I've ever owned... Next to the OnePlus 12.

Don't buy an 8 or a 9 now. The 10 is very close.

I am definitely not buying anything except either iPhone 17pro or pixel 10. Most likely the odds are i am 70% leaning towards pixel 10pro compared to 30% iPhone 17pro due to lack of innovation on apple’s end and how much they fell behind in-terms of AI etc, unless they come up with something surprising but i am not holding my breath. We’ll see i guess as september is around the corner.
