AI in a phone is overrated IMHO. I use AI extensively but on my S25 I've not found any useful AI features, other than using AI apps like Perplexity, Chat GPT, and occasionally Gemini. I wouldn't go Android over iPhone for that personally.

I liked the Pixel 8 but it had a hardware fault and was replaced with the S25. The S25 is much, much faster than the Pixel 8, and I expect the Pixel 10 to be relatively slow as well, compared with Samsung or Apple. The big advantage for me was Google Keyboard on the Pixel has enhanced voice typing which isn't available on Samsung and makes voice typing much better, and I use it extensively. Given you're in Melbourne repairs would be easy for a Pixel.

Given you're already with Apple staying there makes things simpler, no need to change apps, reconfigure everything, just get a new phone and I expect everything is transferred over. Easy.

interesting point of view. The reason i mentioned AI is it would be good to have a phone that has an AI well integrated for useful tasks, specially as technology evolves and i feel that Google might be on a good track compared to Apple on this one, although Chat GPT is a welcome option as well.

I did like the S25 ultra tbh but the size was a bit much so i chose to avoid it and i didn’t want to get the smaller versions of S25 as i believe the ultra is the high end model of the series and i need to pick the best option if i am going to need the phone to last me several years and if i am going to fork out that much money.

In terms of speed on pixel vs samsung, it won’t matter much as it’s not like the old days anymore, even the slowest phone in 2025 is fast enough for me when coming from 12 pro. However, fast charging is moderately important and i am sure most phones nowadays have decent charging speed.

I agree being with apple currently gives a slight advantage in terms of easy transfer and no need to reconfigure everything . I guess will wait see but admittedly, i miss android 😆

It makes sense to have the capability to run AI. I found that new capabilities for AI often require new hardware, so if it's not announced with your phone you might need a new phone to take advantage of it. Some features come to the Pixel phones after release, some don't. My previous two phones were Pixel 4 and Pixel 8.

With the S25 series all the phones have the same CPU and RAM. The larger phones have bigger batteries, sometimes more lenses, bigger screen. They should all be fairly future proof.

Pixel phones get HOT when charging. I bought a small fan to sit on my charging table to keep the pixel cool. The samsungs don't get anywhere near as hot. The S25 has a useful feature that lets you choose fast or standard charging speeds, but with the Pixel you can just use a standard charger rather than a fast charger to stop it getting as hot. The S25 is more efficient so the smaller battery charges faster than the Pixel 8.

I legitimately do not use any AI features on my Pixel... I do not need it... I also don't want it (I chose the wrong phone to avoid it, trust me)... but it's also not in my face about it.

biggest advantage of the pixel phones imo is the Android experience.
I couldn't imagine going back full time to a "skinned" version of Android.
My work phones are a Samsung and an Oppo and I definitely do not like the Android experience on them compared to Pixels.

How's everyone's Pixel doing?

We're 2 generations down, anyone already ready for an upgrade or is your P8 still holding on?

Mine's doing alright. Battery is still one day, even when on holiday using GPS, NFC and lots of picture and video...had a few issues with Android Auto in a BMW, but I think it's a BMW issue and not the P8P since it's similar on other Android phones as well...

I bought my P8 in Oct 2023 and I got the deal where I got a pair of Pixel Buds included and a US$260 credit on the tradein of a Pixel 4XL.

I had thought about upgrading when the P10 came out as there was a good tradein on the P8 but the P8 suits me fine, has good battery life and meets all my requirements. I don't want to fall into the endless upgrade path many iPhone users seem to get locked into :-)

With the March update the charge limit 80% switch is functional again. The torch now has a handy brightness slider. Now Playing feature has become an app making the feature easier to access.

That's strange as my P8P is now only charging to 78%...unless I leave it on charge for hours, then it'll get to 80%...

The timer to "Done Charging" is also missing once it gets to 78%...not sure what's up with my P8P

I may have seen that a couple of times. I'm not concerned about a few percent. In my case it has evened out back to 80 again anyway.

Similar experience on the 9 & 10 following the recent update. Also, not overly worried, figure just balancing.
