This is my opinion. What I like about this announcement is that they didn't load the phone with useless gimmicks like Air Gestures and eye tracking. Instead they focused on genuinely useful stuff. Like the faster shutter time, the camera also has the ability to selectively focus like a Dslr (Phase Detection, timmay are you interested in this?) and also fingerprint security (in my opinion patterns are annoying). Also the power saving mode looks really handy

Kopkiwi:
old3eyes: I think as far as hardware goes in the next few years your not going to see much improvement just window dressing as Apple has done..

For me I think the 3 key areas that companies can really improve on and stand out are:

Battery performance. I don't need a stupidly thin phone if it means sacrificing a bigger battery. I would quite happily have a phone that's a good bit thicker if it means they can double my battery life
Camera quality. It only really seems to be small improvements here and there. 1-2MP increases per gen. Give us something spectacular. Take something out of Nokias book. Again if you give us a thicker phone to allow for the battery, this equates to more room for better optics
Storage space. Enough of these stupid 8/16gb sizes. Make 32GB the minimum and give us 128GB capacity. Storage has become cheap enough over the years that I'm surprised we are still waiting.

Just my thoughts.
1. Battery life will always be an issue and whilst i would like it better I have adjusted how I use a smart phone and when I need it to last longer I have a second battery (I use it on my bicycle to track rides) I think some, not saying in your case, have expectations of the same life as the old Nokia 3120, these have huge processors and graphics so something has to power it and I don't want a big screen with an extra 5 mil width just for the battery.

2. Its a phone not a camera is the way i look at it so happy with what most have now and really don't want the likes of the Nokia big bulge so I can get a decent camera otherwise I'd buy Nokia.

3. I agree its cheap as chips now and one of the main reasons I want an ext SD card as i don't see it significantly would raise the price of a top end phone to have it, maybe more to do with forcing people into cloud storage.

sonyxperiageek:

So does that mean that you would be paying for LTE and WiFi (or covered as part of your BB plan) for Download Booster?

That would be the case, yes.

I find the feature interesting because it seems tailor-made for HetNets, and am quite curious about how it works - and what type of content it's capable of pulling down. Good way to unintentionally burn through one's data cap, but potentially very useful in the right circumstances.

The big question though: will it support LTE 700 APAC band?

What makes you think it doesn't have all that? I couldn't see anywhere they've said it's gone. Do you have a link?

Interesting that it has a removable battery but is still waterproof. I wonder how many warranty claims there'll be with people not replacing the back cover properly.

IF the charging flap is closed, and (guessing here) the back cover is on correctly.

The Sony is waterproof too, but ONLY if the flaps have been put back correctly. If they haven't, it voids the warranty.

What I mean is, when the s4 got announced. The main new features were stuff like Air Gestures etc

This time, in my opinion they have more practical features such as fingerprint to unlock, ultra power saving mode and the new camera features

I seemed to recall an online article I read about a Samsung executive asking his staff to concentrate on innovative software development on the new Galaxy flagship, I suppose it'd make sense Samsung hasn't come up with a design/look on S5.

A bit mystifying, I thought the Note 3 having 3gb was Samsung signalling a new level for their future flagships too. It's not that big a deal really, just odd. Leaves a vulnerability on the spec sheet though for others like the Z2 to differentiate themselves against, which is more relevant with nearly all these devices having the same SoC.

The S5 should have the 700 band since this flagship will be available in Taiwan where one of the mobile operator there will operate a LTE network based on the 700 band.
