mrgsm021: I may to have rethink about the M8 as I just found out that even with the micro SD slot, not only does it not have a built in file manager but also it's not able to transfer files between the card and internal memory without needing to plug into a PC to do the transfer. This would be a huge inconvenience for me.

According to Nik Turner this is untrue, he was able to copy files between using ES File Explorer

I'm no expert, but the camera on the M8 seems somewhat inferior to that of the S5 and the Z2.

I am coming from an S3, so either of the three phones would be an upgrade.

I like the look of the M8, but it's not necessarily about aesthetics.

As someone who uses the camera on my phone a lot, my preference in that regard would be towards the S5 or Z2 - in addition to the points networkn has made.

Great that they are all being released at around the same time, gives you a chance to compare one against the other in the shop before making a decision.

To be fair I've never believed it was possible to properly determine a phones value in less than 3 days of use, whilst it will give you a feel of the item, the stuff that annoys you or causes you unparalled joy in a device, doesn't start to
become apparent until a few days of sustained usage.

I am very glad to be getting both.

I can understand the removable battery thing but the others are pretty meh - especially the point about a larger customer base. The original HTC One M7 still hyas a really large and thriving development community and also receives updates a lot faster than the Galaxy S4. I had a Kit Kat 4.4.2 Sense based custom rom on my phone for months before there were any leaked roms for the S4 (with TouchWiz).

Not sure why you think the screen is better either, doesn't the S5 still use a Pentile matrix?

I can also use ES explorer on my M7 to copy between internal and extSD (i have the 802W with Dual Sim and ext SD)

Don't believe I mentioned it in the review, but that is indeed the case. No joy with Solid Explorer, however I was able to create folders on my external SD & transfer files to said folders using ES File Explorer. This does not work on the Xperia Z2, by the by, although Sony now bundle a (Kind of strange) file explorer app, so all is not lost. Between these & the S5 still sporting Samsung's My Files, SD support in this year's current crop of flagships is thankfully not yet crippled by Google's cloud-based machinations in the name of security. ;)

Why don't these companies produce the handsets before they announce the things? Same thing happened last year with the HTC M7, production delays and all. I suppose you don't want to make more than you are going to sell but jeez. Gives the S5 one month head start.

Mmmm...

That's interesting, I haven't seen any news of the M8 having stock shortage due production delays overseas, have been hearing the exact opposite that they have got plenty of stock to go around, some have even received stock early.

Also just saw Expansys NZ having the M8 available for preorder for NZ$895 + shipping. No indication of stock availability as far as I can see. It looks like the 2.3GHz variant though. Very tempting...

? looking on the page you posted under specs it shows:

4G – LTE up to 150 Mbps 700/900/1800/2100/2600 MHz ?

I assume the 700MHZ band means it will work on the new 700MHZ LTE bands for NZ?

As there's obviously a lot of interest in future-proof purchases of devices with the APAC 700MHz LTE band (band 28), I've made some inquiries regarding the M8. On paper, it does support the band, but as the local 700MHz rollout has yet to begin, the device has not been certified for this band under NZ network operating conditions, and may not work as intended/at all in practice (e.g. may require additional power amplifiers, et cetera). Still, definitely a nice-to-have.

That's actually a good point, only the Asian variant with 2.5GHz supports those particular 4G LTE bands yet it is listed as the 2.3GHz version, so seem to be conflicting info they are providing here...
