What I find interesting is those saying they won't ever buy samsung again etc etc, well if one had done the research they would see that samsung/android is slow to update so if that is top of your list then get a google phone or IOS. Android is always going to be like this it won't ever change but year after year same discussion goes on.

So "yawn" to all those that continually buy things that haven't done the research into then whinge about it in forums

NOT all manufacturers are that slow to update.

I was a Sammy fanboi for ages, custom ROMs, the works... But I also had 3 Sammys die because of their crap QC.

Imagine how happy the latest Note users are!

Then I got a Sony. And I have never had to ROM again. TouchWiz can bite me.

Guess what, my Z5 Premium (2 flagships ago) has Nougat. And even my Z2 got security updates.

Jeez, Sony developer page even gives you Betas and instructions on how to unlock the bootloader and install AOSP. And an AOSP image!

Return to your Samsung.

I am currently using a sony xz that i picked up last weekend, love the thing even if it does have less ram.

Open the box and had 7.0 install right away, then just 2 days ago got another update for Jan's security patch.

I don't know what sony has done but the screen on this thing feels great and the speed of it with less ram is faster than my s7 edge.

Phone is from Expert Infotech so was parallel imported.

Morning all,

It's been a while since I've flashed a sammy (after years of being quite invested in XDA with S4, S5, Note3 haha) Just a quick question or two to those of you who've flashed an international version of the 7.0 software via Odin...
What does and doesn't work afterwards? I've got a Spark branded handset, and Spark are possibly the worst/slowest with software updates so i'm at a near eye-twitching point of downloading the BTU UK rom from sammobile to flash.

I saw the mentions of the XSA "branded" firmware, would you suggest I wait for that or just go ahead and download the BTU one?

If you flash the BTU or XSA it will reset your phone, you updates will come from samsung and not the telco's

The only issue you might face is that they might have things based on the country firmware you flash. This is why i flash the XSA as its the non branded version for AU which is closes to NZ.

I'm assuming BTU is the UK non-branded S7 rom? OH - and do I need to worry about Modem stuff?

It will not trip knox, if you flash an official samsung odin package, that is for your device, this cannot happen.

Yep, BTU is the non branded UK firmware. XEU is the UK/Ireland one (have read this had less bloat - I don't think I noticed a difference when I went from one to the other). While for best compatibility, it's better to have the NZ CSC and PDA (customisation and modem in that order), it shouldn't (hasn't for me and others here) make a difference to you.

I've got a VF sourced GS7, which has lived on XSA for most of it's life and then onto XEU and BTU. I've used ANZ GoMoney on both without issues. If there was VoLTE in NZ, then there would be need for concern as the CSC's that come with the nougat BTU release don't enable it.

No, you don't need to toggle OEM Unlock for this. But you might want to enable secure status (pin or pattern on boot) - you can disable this if you dont want it after the flash. This is recommended as some odin packages have asked people for a pin at boot if they hadn't done this (can't remember what this is, but it's noted on XDA somewhere).

Yep, BL, AP, CP and CSC (not CSC_Home). This will wipe your internal memory and factory reset your phone.

Which version of Odin have you got, I used 3.12.3 and had no probs.
