I've got my brother over in Australia to get me a Pixel 6 Pro from JB HiFi.  They're shipping on the 28th of this month.  It also comes with a free Google Nest Audio.  I could have had him order off the Google Store, which comes with a $150 credit.  I'm not gonna lie, it's going to be a bit hard on the wallet dealing with the customs duty/GST, but I'm hoping he will be claiming back the GST over there, so I'll be paying him the $1299AUD, minus whatever Australian GST has been added to that.  NZ Customs "what's my duty estimator" is showing import GST of about $210, so I might not have to pay much more than another $100 all up (including shipping).  That's comparable with other high end phones being sold here.  I understand the risks involved with warranty returns etc, but I'm willing to take it.  No 5G, no worries - I'm on 2Degrees and who knows when they are rolling out their 5G network anyway.  And you never know, by the time it's here, my phone might be able to connect.

I've really enjoyed my Pixel 5 (which I got from Oz as well), but I'm really looking forward to the extra screen real estate on the Pixel 6 Pro.

I agree, planning to do the same. Pre-order from jb-hifi in Australia, hopefully be able to pay using my own CC to ship it to my friend in AU. Get DHL to ship it out and pay duty upfront so it's cleared and delivered in a few days.

heavenlywild: Surely the Aussie one would be compatible here on 4g and 5g?

All of the Pixel 6 variants support all NZ bands.

It's just a matter of is 5G enabled on our carriers in this model in the firmware and additionally what else is going to work.

You'll get 4G no issues.

Bands are listed here so yeah 4G would be fine but 5G? VoLTE? Will have to see what happens when someone puts a sim in it :)

Correct me if I am wrong but it does cover all bands for 5G and 4G for Spark at least. It shouldn't be a firmware issue stopping compatibility?

Hi all,

I have bought a few Google things from Aussie and have the following advice:

I got a 4XL sent to my cousin in Aus who then posted it to me. Classic Auspost didn't deliver so his wife had to queue at the post shop and collect it for me (showing a message from me granting permission). Then they posted it to me and customs collected it and I paid the $250 or so for fees and GST etc.

Last year I got a pixel stand and had it sent to AusFF who are freight forwarders. They look a bit dodgy but were fast and efficient with a reasonable small fee and my stand arrived all safe and well. Would recommend this method tbh.

Ive also purchased from Dick Smith and the 2XL I got from there was Canadian with a crackly top speaker. Couldn't get it fixed and they lied that they replaced it. Then I bought a 4A5G and Auspost "lost" it. Never again will I buy from Dick!

I tried to get some pixelbuds from Amazon US, B&H, best buy etc and they all wouldn't ship to youshop or take my credit card.

I'll probably wait for Mighty Ape or for them to get cheaper on Expansys.

Bands yes.

Configuration files for it? No so it loads the default one to get the basics going, and 5G is disabled in this configuration file.

Has anyone used myus.com here? So I checked their website and it says 7% sales tax is exempt when sending to them. I haven't tried it yet because their sign up page isnt working for me. However, if what they say is correct,

Pixel 6 Pro 128 GB is = USD 899. (You can take one whatever deal depending on the retailer you choose - mostly offering Pixel buds or Nest Audio)

Without sales tax (-7%) = USD 836

MyUS.com shipping -  USD 37 (Fedex Int Connect)

Total = USD 873 = ~ NZD 1217

Customs duty = NZD 193

Total = NZD 1410

This sounds much better if I am not missing something, than buying it from Australia and having a friend ship to me.

From Australia (estimate)

Pixel 6 Pro 128 GB = AUD 1299

Shipping (DHL estimate) =  AUD 101

Total = AUD 1400 = NZD 1462

Customs Duty = NZD 225

Total = NZD 1687

The only issue is I can't find reliable info on myus.com on Google. Either the reviews are too good or just 1 star filled with bad experience. Knowing someone who has purchased from them and shipped to NZ before would be good to confirm before ordering.

Thanks

At that price I'd wait a few days until the parallel importers list it and get local warranty from them. Just bought a 5a so next year at best for me.

$899 is the price on the Google store without tax. So they won't be able to reduce that by 7%. I did a quick calculation on shipito.com and shipping was US $27 for the phone. And if you use their Oregon warehouse there is no state sales tax. They also withhold the GST on your behalf.

Staying in Wellington. Check out my AirBnB in the Wellington CBD.  https://www.airbnb.co.nz/h/wellycbd  PM me and mention GZ to get a 15% discount and no AirBnB charges.

With the US pricing being cheaper than the pricing in Aus, it makes sense to get it shipped through Shipito or similar, doesn't it?
Any issue with having a US version of the Pixel in NZ? (except for the obvioius power brick compatibility, which doesn't sound like it is included anyway)

What would be the reason to not do it?

I just had some Air Force 1s arrive yesrterday via myUS. Hadn't used them in about 10 years but still worked all good. Placed the order on the 6th, so got here pretty quick.

True... but I somehow usually change my phone before it develops an issue :-(

You'd have the same warranty problems shipping it over from Aus

Ozzy Pixel 6 purchase info

Rather concerning that not a single retailer has a listing for a 256GB Pro model.

I don't care about the colour but 512GB is unnecessary for me and 128GB will be a problem, and I'm uninterested in the non-Pro model.

I have a nasty feeling that reputable retailers in NZ (like Mighty Ape) won't have stock prior to 2022..

B&H has the Pro also available for $899 plus $99 plus Pixel Buds. Might use them plus Shipito
