This appears to be a "feature"
😡

To get it back, open GPay, tap on your Covid pass.
When the pass opens, tap on the 'three dots' menu top right, select "Save to Home" and you can put it back on your home screen.

As mentioned before this seems to affect Samsung devices - can you confirm what are you using?

S21 user here, and had it disappearing too.

Just updated to Android 12/One UI 4 though so lets see if that makes any difference.

I gave up on GPay on my Fold3 and just put a shortcut to a jpeg of the pass on the screen. Got the jpeg by screen-shotting the pass.

Yep used the screen shot idea. I suppose it is less secure than in Google Pay as there you need a pin/password/finger/puzzle to open it.

However I see my fingerprint whorl in the middle of the QR code on the lockscreen in my S21 so I will see if it is still able to be read next time I need to get it checked

Maybe be a paper version in the wallet seems attractive :-)

I spent an hour or so with my wife's Samsung phone yesterday, trying to resolve this.  I think I have.

Turns out that there are TWO "Google Pay" apps on her phone - the obvious one downloaded from the Play Store (which seems to be older), and a "hidden" one, which is accessible via the Google settings page in the Android Settings.  They are both clearly "Google Pay", but the interfaces are quite different.  The "hidden" one contained her pass.

As she doesn't actually use Google Pay for PayWave functionality on her phone, I *uninstalled* the "obvious" Google Pay app (the usual way, from the main launcher); then went back into the "hidden" one, verified the pass still exists, and re-added the shortcut to the home screen.

So far, it's still working - the shortcut launches "Google Pay" (despite it being removed) and displays the pass.

This does sort-of make sense if you read about the Covid Pass framework - it's built into the OS/Google Framework, and I think Google just elected to use "Pay" as a front-end for the passes.

At any rate, as weird as that sounds, it works on her phone.  I have no idea why, but it does.

YMMV, but if you're having issues, AND not using Google Pay for anything else, it's worth a try!

I've got a Samsung S21 Ultra and it doesn't disappear from my home screen, but it does disappear from my wife's Nokia.

I have a Nokia 6.1

The CVC icon vanishes from the home page each time I reboot - this is 100% reproducible

I think it also seems to go away all on it's own occasionally, but that may or may not be correct

Screenshot the QR code and store it on the phone. Put a shortcut to the image on the phone home screen.

Ditto, and has worked fine so far

I have Samsung Note 10+ and Vaccine cert shortcut disappearing from home screen every 3 or 4 days, and have lock home screen layout on to prevent items being removed but it still disappears. Each time I put shortcut back need to unlock home screen layout to put on then relock, so from reading other comments must be a Samsung thing. Will have to try shortcut to screenshot trick as last time needed to show cert couldn't find and then needed to use google pay.
