I'm going from an S10+ so I expect the changes to be pretty significant. My battery is barely getting to the end of the day now, and doing wireless stuff at the same time (syncing my watch while playing music on bluetooth headphones) causes a stutter.

Hopefully the migration is smooth, particularly the 2FA and password manager stuff.

I just hate the cameras on the back making the device unstable on flat surfaces.

There are reports that Sammy is cramming as much as 60GB of crapware into the OS on the S23 series in certain market variants:

Can those of you who is lucky enough to receive your shiny new precious take a look and see if this also applies to NZ models?

60GB is getting up there in terms of base OS for a PHONE.

Yeah for sure, and doesn't leave user with a lot left for media and app storage, especially S23 where base storage is only 128GB.

I honestly can't imagine why anyone would legitimately need 60GB of data stored on a small mobile device like a phone, especially not long term.

With smart sync, Wifi everywhere, data plans being so generous, I think data allowances for 90+% of the population, means even 60GB free, should be plenty.

This is misleading and flat wrong for a number of reasons. This reddit thread lists all the reasons why.

This is shoddy reporting being repeated from the Ars Technica article, which is misleading as summed up by the reddit commentary

Edit: jinx @allio!

bradstewart:

I received mine at 12:30 today. Going through the setup.
Initial impression is that despite being very slightly heavier than my S21 Ultra, the weight distribution is vastly improved and so it is not top heavy and wanting to fall out of my hand.

But I am still waiting in the queue outside PB tech for the big release day???

Not your fault mate; I've seen 3 sites now that have repeated it almost verbatim with no clear thought above the original.

Ron Amadeo is capable of good pieces with his lengthy Android release analysis pieces, it's just clear he has an axe to grind with Samsung/ "bloated" Android distros. His entire article boils down to seemingly high usage = Samsung bloat ware. No effort put into analysis of exactly why, unlike the Twitter thread by Mishaal Rahman... which now that I look at it suspiciously predates the Ars article by 3 days...

Yes, we get it; it's thicc... the S23 Ultra will be my 3rd Sammy phone and while I'm not crazy about the company and their Google ape'ing practice of selling data/ads/pre-loaded apps, a lot of their apps are much more refined than stock Android and in some cases, Google has subsequently baked in features that started in Samsung apps. Honestly, the bigger problem is Android needs a Google divorce...

Mine got delivered this afternoon.  Except it didn't, the "sorry we missed you" was delivered, even though I have authority to leave :(  Next earliest I could schedule was Friday, that's a bummer.  I had been in hospital for a gastroscopy this afternoon and turns out I missed the delivery by only 20 mins in the end.  Gutted.

edit: Absolutely no pun intended there 🤣

Back on topic, has anyone used the IG trade in service post-sale?

I want to trade in my S20+ for the trade-in boost but it seemed a bit dumb that the whole process seemingly required me to reset my phone to run the app "tests" BEFORE I purchased the new one, let alone received it...

What are people getting from 2 degrees?  Is it the $900 trade in PLUS a $600 boost, or is the $600 boost part of the $900 trade in?

Look like I will need to wait longer to get my phone. I received a package from Spark today but they sent a standard S23 rather than an Ultra. Hopefully, someone returns my voicemail and email soon to sort it out. Luckily I have what I was ordering in an email so if there is any confusion it's not on my end.
