Some of the stuff has never worked, like car crash detection and Hold For Me etc.

The AI stuff like magic cue and translation should work as those are basically language based. If it works in English Aus it'll be fine here too right? Just a matter of setting your languages to make it work.

MikeB4: I have been told that JBHiFi NZ are in talks with Google to have New Zealand added to the list of approved areas for Pixel devices. Given Googles low level of love for Aotearoa I would not hold ones breath.

I will hold my breath for that anyway : )

I hope it gets somewhere. I like the Pixel range and sick of my iPhone. I have been beta testing iPad OS 26 and if IOS 26 is going to be the same or similar the iPhone will be even more less a friend. I am nervous of parallel or grey imports, my medical situations requires me to have continuity of connection.

Have imported Pixel phones, Vivo X200 Ultra, Xiaomi 14 Ultra among others and never had a single problem with..anything.

Now?, sure.

But that may not be the case if they have no NZ specific VoLTE profile and needs to make phonecalls over 4G in a few months. Which is where the current market issues lie.

Pixels have worked from the 6 up across the big 3 for all of the above.

I can personally vouch my 7a worked on all 3 carriers and so does my 9 Pro XL.

Professionally speaking I've seen a few 6 Pros working quite well on One NZ ;)

It did take a good while to get there though.

FYI for anyone wanting to buy Pixel gear from Aussie JB HiFi:

  • JB Australia now has the Pixelsnap charger and stand in stock! The snap ring is not able to ship until mid-October it seems.
  • Ausff.com.au has a $7 plan you can use, and if you use the code "HI5" you'll get $5 off so it is really $2!
  • You just need to use the AusFF address it provides you but instead of the 1300 landline number, use their public WhatsApp / mobile number which is  +61490839412 as the contact number. You can use your NZ address for billing.

Very pleased that I've got a matching case for my XL on the way and the charger stand :)

Update: JB cancelled my order because of non-matching information and / or IP address and location issues. Using a VPN is also a reason they will not process an order according to the email I got. So it seems they really don't want my money! That's a huge bummer.

Pixelsnap is broadly iPhone/magsafe compatible according to various articles.

As it rolls out to other Androids more aftermarket will become available.

The Qi charging v2.2 standard includes the magnet arrangement and faster wireless charging, which is what the Pixels have. Gotta give credit to Apple for making their MagSafe available as an open standard.

All MagSafe accessories work with Pixelsnap and Qi2.2.

Update on my accessories yarn above: I purchased the case, ring, and charging stand from the Australian Google Store and it seems to have worked perfectly fine. Delivery to my freight forwarder by the end of this week hopefully!

Ah I had this issue as well, ended up buying from Harvey and they didn't care. Definitely feels a bit ick buying from them, but I really wanted it. I jumped on the 9 pro for $997.

My question for the floor is what info did you put into ausff, a description of mobile phone and value of $900 isn't going to cause issues?

I didn't put my phone through AusFF, only accessories, but that does include the charger. I put electronics as the tax code, and just put the retail value. If customs pulls it up then so be it (currently with AusPost so TBC on it actually being delivered haha).

You'll probably get asked to pay GST but that would be the only hurdle.

My experience of bringing in electronics from Australia, is that Customs only worries about charging GST for items worth over $1,000. But many vendors, e.g. Amazon, charge you GST anyway if you are importing into NZ. But using a freight forwarding address in Aus, they probably won't charge GST.

The 9 Pro arrived today with no issues. I put mobile device as the tax code, and the retails value of $997, though I noticed AusFF wrote it as $500. Anyway, no issues, well packaged by AusFF, would recommend!
