Here's some pricing info for NZ

http://topnews.net.nz/content/211185-huawei-ideos-x5-come-market-soon

"On Friday Victor Xu, Huawei's chief marketing officer, in a webcast has declared that the device will be released in the upcoming month in Hong Kong, Singapore and New Zealand respectively. Xu has alleged that the Ideos X5 will outlay between $250 and $300"

That puts it in the NZD$330 - 395 price range.

Probably need to add GST to that. Still if in $380-$455 range would be good.

I think it would be a bit more than that thought given that the u8150 started at $380

- Unlikely to have Gorilla glass at this price point.
- The X6 will have TV out.
- The X6 with have Dolby Surround Sound, not the X5

So what impact will the "SRS Professional Audio Effect" have as stated in the official spec ?

After a little reading on the net

SRS is software based manipulation of the audio to produce different tonal effects (eg like the settings on your stereo to make it sound like you are in a concert hall, rock concert, echo etc.

Dolby is similar, but to get the accreditation you must meet certain standards.  This often involves spending extra $$$ on better components (eg speakers, DSPs etc) and is designed to be more balanced.  Tracks recorded with Dolby Surround sound, actually have 4 channels of surround sound in a matrix on the 2 channels.  This extra data can only be correctly interpreted equipment supporting the standard to recreate the surround sound, otherwise you get the standard mono or stereo.

Does it have native Divx playback function ?

It says h.264 on the spec.

It should do though, given the cpu speed and memory and huge screen.

Couldn't care less about the camera. It's still better than the $100 digicams sold a few years ago (not now tho as u can buy 10mp cams for that price)

SRS WOWHD , sounds tasty. Hope music quality is at least on par with my N95 , don't want a extreme small sound.

Several websites are claiming Divx, but with an 800Mhz processor your mileage may vary.

That's a relief.  So it has the Adreno 205 then?

Either way, it looks like Huawei have paper launched it and we're not going to see it in Jan as promised.  I really don't understand why the tech companies paper launch stuff as it just pisses people off when they don"t deliver on their promises and earns them a bad reputation in the eyes of the public.

A paper launch is when a company announces that a product will be available for sale on a certain day or in a certain month, then fails to deliver on that commitment for whatever reason (technical or otherwise).  Often it is done for marketing purposes so they can claim bragging rights for releasing a style of product, feature or service before their competitors, even though it doesn't reach the hands of the end users until substantially later.

I have no idea when we'll see it here.  Huawei said available in NZ in Jan, and we're currently at the 28th of the month and no one is yet offering one for retail sale. Nor have the usual advance reviews shown up on local tech and news sites.
More importantly, 2Degrees, who are their official suppliers in NZ refuse to talk about it, and their call centre staff know nothing, meaning that a release is some way off at a minimum.

All I know is I need a phone soon.

I thought the x5 is 800mhz and the x6 1ghz?
Also doesn't make sense for 2d to release the x5 so soon after the p500
