I've checked through both the Downloaded and All tabs, but the "Retail Mode For Galaxy S2" app doesn't appear. I've also tried clearing the data for the Samsung Apps app, and it still thinks that there's an update for the app I don't have installed.

It might be a market-related issue. Based on the apps that appear, I think the software is thinks I'm in the Middle East. If I root I'll try Market Enabler to see if I can get other bits to appear.

Seems everyone is pretty happy with their new toys.
Curious about the people that upgraded from the galaxy s

How does the extra size feel in the hand? Do you wish it had stayed at 4 inches like the galaxy s?

How do you rate the camera compared to the original galaxy s? (which was pretty bad really)

Is the samoled plus screen really a big step up from the samoled screen? or just marketing hype?

Any parts of the phone at all you are a little disappointed in? Ive heard some comments about the speaker but not too much.

My wife has an original SGS, so I can give some comparisons here.

There really isn't much difference in physical size. There's only a couple of mm difference in each direction, so you probably won't notice it.

There isn't too much improvement in the screens. Text is a little clearer, but the most noticeable change is when viewing smooth, subtle gradients. With the original SGS it was possible to see the occasional bit of moire pattern in the gradient. This is greatly reduced (if not eliminated) with the new screen.

Camera is good, much better than the Galaxy S/Iphone 4 Camera...but in saying that I never really had a problem getting alright shots off with the old phones

size/weight, no real difference, a bit lighter, not that much noticeable in width

Prefer the 4.3" screen, looks a lot better than the original 4" screen, although I need to fiddle with the colour settings still.

External speaker = about the same as teh Galaxy S; internal speaker = fine, haven't noticed any problems with it yet

Disappointments so far: no Cisco VPN, WebEx or VoiP software :( guess the 2.3.4 update will hopefully resolve that! No other qualms. really feels nothing like a Galaxy S, TW 4.0 is actually nice to use, the keyboard is a lot better, there is no lag at all!!! opening the marketplace on this compared to the old Galaxy S is like comparing a Pentium 2 to an iCore. it's blisteringly fast!

I have moved across the ditch. Now residing in Melbourne as a VOIP/Video Technical Trainer/Engineer.

any tips on getting the battery to last longer? I hered it lasts 2-3 days with heavy usgae yet i have to charge mine every night and thats with light-moderate usgae

Battery usage does get better over time. Give it a week or 2 and it should improve quite a lot.

I'm seeing improvement in just 1 day. I got about 9 hours heavy usage yesterday before the battery was almost dead. I'm now sitting at 8:15 moderate usage and have about 70% battery left.

Interesting you say that as i've been noticing a little on my GS2 when scrolling between homepages. It's most visible when using the default facebook/twitter widgets, if you swipe from or to a page with these widgets the moire can be seen easily.

I wonder if this is due to the use of ADWLauncher or not? I didn't spend more than 5min on the default launcher so couldn't say if it was visible there.

The gradient would occur on static images, not moving ones. I think your issue is different.

Does you one occur when scrolling left and right (when the phone is in portrait orientation), but not up and down? If so, I've seen it too. I don't think it's a pixel refresh rate issue, otherwise it'd show no matter which way you you scrolled. It could be something in the way that Samsung "enhance" images for display.

I've just changed mine to the standard android lock pattern, there is an app for the CRT screen off though, if you wanted that one?
Although it's not as good as rooting it and then changing the framework.apk

No, I was pushed to root as I hated the lock screen. However now I'm using widget locker and it's nice except double pressing the home button seems to unlock the device. I've sent a bug report so it should be fixed soon.

I got my SGS2 today but am having problems with 3G. I'm on 2degrees and have the following settings for my APN's.

Name: 2degrees internet

Authentication Type:

I can only choose from "Internet + MMS", "Internet" or "MMS". I can't type "default" into this field.

This morning I texted "buy 100mb" to 233 and they replied saying it had been successfull. I checked the 2degreesmobile site and I had 100MB of data free. The problem I'm having is I don't have any 3G appearing in the app tray up the top of the phone.

Here's what I've done to diagnose the problem:

I've put my work Vodafone SIM from an HTC 7 Trophy (WM7 phone) into the phone and the 3G icon appears and I can browse the net on 3G. I put my 2degrees SIM into the HTC 7 Trophy and I got the 3G icon (it was roaming so I got a triangle instead) and I could browse the internet using 3G.

I put my partners 2degrees SIM from her HTC Desire S into my SGS2 and I don't get the 3G icon and I cannot browse the net. Her 2degrees SIM and my 2degrees SIM both work in her HTC Desire S.

After using the browser on her phone with my SIM I now have 99.75MB free so the data is being used.

Has anyone seen this happen before? Is the SGS2 not supported on their network?
