scottjpalmer: After all these years pining for a Padfone type device, I have changed my mind.

The Samsung Galaxy Note is going to be my introduction to Android. I have decided that I want the biggest screen/resolution possible that will fit in my pocket.

T minus 2.5 weeks until I purchase one in Australia.

Maybe an HTC One X instead of the Note? Slightly more pocket-able, higher resolution

Lower resolution than the Note in fact. The Note's is 1280x800, rather than the One X's 1280x720. If you're looking for maximum utility then the Note is the clear choice over the One X (providing you can handle the size that is, which is not a small caveat of course). Larger screen, replaceable battery, USB OTG, expandable memory, likely better bluetooth stack for things that are non-audio related based on history of both companies devices.

All the things I need, thanks :-)

Yeah what he said "IF" you want it as your "utility device" primarily and not as your "phone device" primarily.

I think the OP was pretty clear about that being important, so I didn't feel any particular need to qualify it as you've done here. Something like 5 million of us are using Notes quite happily as our phone device too though.

Nail on the head NZTF.

It will be my everything device . . . phone, tablet, computer, music player, camera, movie player. Possibly the most converged geekzoner? :-)

You can't be the change you want in the world until you own your own actions.

Absolutely fair enough. I've never for a second pretended that the Note is anything other than a niche device (if you're in the niche though it's an incredible handset).;

Here we go folks pricing for the Padfone, Infintity and other stuff.
http://phandroid.com/2012/04/17/asus-padfone-transformer-pad-infinity-and-pad-300-priced-and-dated-for-europe/

Edit: In case you are too lazy to look up exchange rates Padfone roughly NZD 1150

Infinity roughly NZD970. Seems pretty good to me.

I stand corrected on the resolution, thanks. I guess in the context of what I was proposing (retaining phone and tab as separate entities) was tidier in my circumstance than the Padfone plus accessories for around a similar price. However if it is to be only one device then the Note with some bluetooth accessories would appear a good solution.

I'm quite glad I went Phablet over Padfone. It has been 10 days now, on the road, and having a pocketable big screen device rocks
