Sometime in the next ~12 hours the Asus Padfone will be launched at MWC in Barcelona.

This device has me quite excited, if it has been done properly I will procure one at the earliest opportunity! I am quite an Apple fanboi at the moment but this could all change very soon (blog post on that subject).

It has been a long time coming, the first thread on Geekzone about it is here and it likely won't be available for a few months yet but I am at this stage very very tempted. I hope I am not disappointed.

This thread is where you will find the Padfone details as they emerge, feel free to contribute :-)

I predict a) You will get one as soon as you can and b) It will be underwhelming and you will be back to an iPhone inside 6 months

err, kinda cool idea, but not enough for me to switch.

im more excited about ubuntu running on android and docking a phone to workstation and running a full version of ubuntu from my phone.

if it sells as one package, ie when you buy the padphone you get the tablet accessory it would be a reason to buy that over another android phone, but i dont see it as being a reason to buy it over a iphone.

Agree, if I can have one device that is a phone, a tablet, a laptop and then plugs into a large display to run Ubuntu, that would make a happy camper!

I've been wondering how the KT Spider is coming along.  Phone, tablet, gamepad, laptop, just needed quadcore and a desktop OS.
And now that quadcore is out...

ok that spider thing is really cool.  especially docking to laptop.  not sure how well android would work as a laptop OS, but that would be something i would be interested in.

having phone, with notebook dock, and pad dock == really really good idea.  i would use notebook dock far more than a pad dock (hardly use my ipad, but always use my macbook, and mostly for web surfing)

perfect device (until something better comes out): android phone with ubuntu with laptop dock, ipad, desktop dock, supporting dual display on desktop dock.

when that comes out (and looks like that will be happening, maybe a year or two away) i will switch from iphone (still have 2 years life left in my iphone 4 i reckon)
