Checked with the boss, and he's confirmed I can take a day off!

Although a few in the office have questioned my sanity, after telling them I wanted to fly to Auckland to have a look at/possibly review a phone...

I have moved across the ditch. Now residing in Melbourne as a VOIP/Video Technical Trainer/Engineer.

Can't see a reason not to volunteer:

I currently use an IDEOS, which obviously necessitates a fair bit of tweaking to keep it usable given its specs. Therefore, I am very comfortable with all things Android.
My written skills are impeccable. Enough said.
I have a high degree of technical skill, but am comfortable pitching my reviews to any and all levels of understanding.
I will look great in any accompanying publicity shots. I'll probably even wear a tie.
I live in Auckland and have a very flexible schedule/understanding workplace.

Bottom line is I could do the job with my eyes closed, I could do with a new phone to play with and nothing would bring me more pleasure than to bring glory to both myself and Geekzone by producing an award-winning series of reviews.

What the heck, I'll chuck my name in the hat, as I missed out on the Lumia 800 on Saturday night :-)

I've been a very happy card carrying member of the iPhone club for over a year now (and a happy iPod Touch owner for longer than that). That being said, I'd not classify myself as an iFanboy, and like to think I'm pretty open to new tech. FI, I bought my daughter a Huawei X5 for her birthday, and was very impressed with that phone, especially for its $250 price.

I think I'd be able to offer some insight from the other side of the fence, including how ICS stacks up to iOS 5.1 on the iPhone 4. Having a phone which performs well as a camera, portable music player, and casual gaming device is important to me. These are tasks that my iPhone handles well, and it would be great to be able to contrast how well Android devices handle this. In particular, I'd be interested to see how well an Android phone integrates into our Apple-centric ecosystem at home, where all our media is controlled by iTunes, and is shared by a range of Apple devices, from our phones, iPod Touches, iPad and Apple TV.

Oh, and I'm in Auckland too (and am self-employed, so time off shouldn't be an issue).

I'm interested (and apparently should have read past the first post. Sigh). I currently hold in my hands an iPhone, LG Optimus 7Q (Windows Phone) but so far have never had a really good go with an Android device worth using (IDEOS X5 is really sluggish and has the battery life of an iPhone running an EA game for 30 minutes).

I'd love to be able to actually use an Android device, and especially to see how it stacks up in my mismatched ecosystem with Apples, Sonys and Samsungs.

So, yeah, sign me up!

this is a great initiative by Telecom, not only is it great advertising, but people want to read reviews from people who are not employed by the company or marketing people who like to put a spin on it. We want to know the good and the bad. No phone is perfect (well it might be until something else comes out in a week), so you need to be able to weigh up a phones short comings compared to what you need to have. For some people the 'essential missing feature' that some reviews write about is not used by 90% of users anyway.

I would love to have a change to be involved, but being from Hawkes Bay counts me out. As an iphone user I would like to see a review from another iphone user trying android for the first to get a real life perspective. No hype, just what works, what doesn't.

It sounds like a great exercise.

ALthough i'm studying my masters it does mean I can go anywhere at almost any time.

If we're talking phones I've been entrenched in google since the early days of android (thanks to a buddy who works for them). I've never owned an iPhone but recently played with a Lumia and was very surprised.

I build 3D printers and do more hardware hacking than phone hacking but love my custom android OS, only when it works ;)

Whatever happens I certainly look forward to reading the real life users reviews.

Wow the HTC X for $0 on a 24 month contract, thats considerably better than VF are offering. I just got offered a $600 rebate for a 24 month contract on a $100 smartphone plan.

Of course I'd love to review a new Android device but I think that's pushing my luck. However you have a good handle on the type of reviewer I am, and that I live up to my end of the bargain with the agreement to provide reviews. I'd go to Auckland just to visit JB HiFi. Oh, and my brother and sister-in-law ;-)

Oh, you wouldn't come to me visit me?

EDIT: WHOA! Just saw what Telecom are offering the X for on contract, as NZ telcos go that is a stellar deal.
