I wish Vodafone had released their lte on band 4. I could've had fun with my nexus 4.

d3Xt3r:
profrink: What experience has everyone had with their battery?

I'm normally getting from 6am - 10.30pm on heavy usage with mobile data but yesterday managed to pull close to 1 day, 8 hours with average usage on WiFi. Still had 20% battery left but needed to charge up for the evening.

With the latest franco kernel, Paranoid Android ROM, Qualcomm BatteryGuru, Nexus 4 Display Control and various kernel/system tweaks, I get around two days of battery life with moderate-heavy usage.

Is it worth rooting?

For me it is - the benefits go way beyond increased battery life. There are quite a few useful and cool root apps, for eg: AdAway, GMD Gesture Control, Titanium Backup, Noozxoide/FauxSpeaker (improve and amplify audio)...

Plus if you use a custom ROM like Paranoid Android, you get features that you can't get anywhere, such as hybrid mode (run your phone or individual apps in phone/tablet/phablet mode; change system colors per-app ; hide the navbar and use the PIE navigation system..); improve the display to make it look more like an AMOLED screen; faster updates (I got 4.2.2 many weeks before the official OTA was released - infact I got it just a few hours after 4.2.2 's sources were updated on the server); the list is endless!

Even if you don't go the whole custom ROM route, AdAway alone is worth it - there are so many sites that use those annoying inpage popup ads that you can't even close because the x button is so small and doesn't scale up. Plus ads slow down your browsing, eat battery, eat data and make some sites completely un-browsable. As a bonus, AdAway also blocks malware and phishing domains.

The only question you need to ask is if you can afford to invest the time to do all this - there's an initial learning curve involved.. but it unlocks your phone to a whole new world of possibilities. It's like discovering the wardrobe to Narnia. :)

Installed Cyanogenmod yesterday, decided to jump in on the nightlies.

Finally a fixed and customizable quick settings panel - the default one is inconsistent and lacking.

SMS quick reply i have also missed since my previous phone too, glad to have that back also.

Love how well franco kernel idles

Unfortunately not going to happen anywhere but the USA/canada, no one else uses the AWS spectrum except there. I just forget the Nexus even supports it as its irrelevant everywhere but some select parts of those countries.

Not that 4G is viable for me atm anyway.

I would root but the Nexus 4 was an (amazing) birthday gift from my dad and he had it imported from the US so I don't wanna risk it. Next year when the warranty is I will mess with it

Very easy to root and unroot a nexus. Almost a matter of seconds. A stock nexus is still pretty darn awesome. I love root access though. Possibilities are endless.

Again I just don't want to risk tripping the flash counter till my warranty is up.

Yes you will void the warranty if the boot loader is unlocked.

Hey guys

I just received my nexus 4!

Anybody bought decent screen protector which is anti-fingerprint?
I have sweaty hands so I guess those cheap protectors on trademe won't do the job.

And those who don't use the case, do you put back screen protector as well?
