Just got some information from Telecom. It seems HTC One handsets will be available in store on the 9th May. If anything changes and I get more information I will post here.

As you see, some of the people on the forum have gone and bought from JB or Vodafone. tells you that telecom have loss customers, but I guess they'll never lose you coz you seem to be licking them no matter how they stuff up...

So? Did you cancel YOUR order and buy from another source ?

As I've paid for it, I'll stick with it till the 9th... but I sure won't be pre-ording with telecom again..

Called NL and was told they're expecting stock either later today or tomorrow.

"Hold on, we haven't finished disabling one of the main features of the phone, give us two more days"

;-)

Sorry, not a huge fan of carriers meddling with products. That said, I do appreciate Telecom sending out review units to geekzone for reviews I trust.

May I ask which store this was?

I called JB at Sylvia Park, they had no idea, spoke to three different people. Told them that their Queen St store had stock and he just gave me some convoluted jabber and told me to call back on Thursday.

It's probably covered somewhere in the thread already, so apologies in advance... but is there a difference between the Telecom and VF versions? Will buying a Telecom one lock you into the Telecom network going forward? Or conversely if I get a Vodafone model could I shift to Telecom once they have 4g up and running?

No phones are locked in New Zealand.

You will be able to use the phone on either network right now. The only thing to know is that the Telecom version will have the 4G / LTE disabled (via software) until October when they launch their own 4G network. Once that happens, you can also use Telecom's handset on Vodafone's 4G network.

As far as I know:

"is there a difference between the Telecom and VF versions?"

Telecom's version will have 4G disabled until Telecom's 4G network goes live at the end of the year.

"Will buying a Telecom one lock you into the Telecom network going forward?"

No, but you won't be able to use 4G on Vodafone if you buy a Telecom handset (until Telecom 4G goes live)

"I get a Vodafone model could I shift to Telecom once they have 4g up and running?"

Yes.

Caveat: I may be wrong about any of these things.

HTC One

Vodafone

  • 2g frequencies
    • 850/900/1800/2100
  • 3g frequencies
    • 850/900/1900/2100
  • LTE Frequencies
    • 1800/2600
  • Delivery Date
    • 3 to 5 working days from order, currently available in some shops.
Asia model, apparently. 801s? Has the 850mhz band for 3g (Telecom XT).

Telecom

  • 2g frequencies
    • 850/900/1800/2100
  • 3g frequencies
    • 850/900/1900/2100
  • LTE Frequencies
    • ? Disabled in software until Telecom starts their LTE 4G network - October???
  • Delivery Date
    • available 9th May. Delivery to you or your shop? Who knows.......
Could be the asia model (1800/2600 LTE) too, or the AT&T model (700mhz LTE). M7_UL software (on Bradstewarts one anyway). The Model ID says it's a PN0714000; but it is not explicit about what LTE frequencies it supports.

This is what i have been able to piece together, if there are any mistakes I'd like to be corrected. All of it is assumed until confirmed.

Thanks for the quick reply everyone. The LTE frequency looks like the only potential snag. I'm looking to change from Vodafone to Telecom at some point in the future. I'm annoyed at VF who won't let me change to a more expensive plan until I'm out of contract. Fair enough in a legal sense, I signed the contract locking me to a plan, but it still annoys me when they would be making MORE money from me if I changed!

Just been to Vodafone on Queen St to have a play with their display model, can confirm it is Asian model (possibility Taiwanese to be precise), as can see traditional Chinese for Taiwan as one of the display & input language.

They all have those languages Telecoms included.

The Telecom variant is m7_ul which is the international gsm/lte one that everyone has. Software is the only difference.

Just taking mine out of the box - WOW. Makes my One X look like a toy. Now to wait for it to charge :)

Good luck to everyone getting their unit over the next few days!
