NikT: As there's obviously a lot of interest in future-proof purchases of devices with the APAC 700MHz LTE band (band 28), I've made some inquiries regarding the M8. On paper, it does support the band, but as the local 700MHz rollout has yet to begin, the device has not been certified for this band under NZ network operating conditions, and may not work as intended/at all in practice (e.g. may require additional power amplifiers, et cetera). Still, definitely a nice-to-have.

You are right, it is nice to have that LTE 700 support. By the time the 700 service is rolled out, I'd probably have moved on to my next device already LoL!!

The M8 introduction video is up at the Vodafone coming soon site:

No indication of price or availability, not even a mention of which variant.

I can understand the removable battery thing but the others are pretty meh - especially the point about a larger customer base. The original HTC One M7 still hyas a really large and thriving development community and also receives updates a lot faster than the Galaxy S4.

I find this quite difficult to believe. According to Wikipedia "On 23 May 2013, The Wall Street Journal reported that sales of the HTC One had reached around 5 million since its launch in March.[78] By comparison, the iPhone 5 sold 5 million units within its first three days of availability[79] and the Galaxy S4 shipped 10 million units within its first month of availability". "As of October 23, 2013, Samsung has sold over 40 million S4 units"...HTC don't report total M7 sales numbers. I hope its fair to say that the M7 was widely regarded as a critical success but a commercial failure in terms of sales.

One of the pleasures of owing an S3 for me has been the wide availability of accessories, roms, cases, you name it, and I suspect that is directly linked to the size of the user base.  This would make me think that there is a heck of a lot more support out there for the S4 than for the M7.

Having owned a couple of HTCs before the switch to Samsung, and liking them a lot, I am pretty interested in the M8. M7 was a dead duck for me without a micro SD. Looking forward to handling a real M8 in a store when they finally arrive...

It's available from Expansys NZ or Exeltek, both of which ship to NZ. Shipping cost from Exeltek is more expensive as they only use courier like Fedex or DHL from memory. Expansys has cheaper shipping cost with tracking available.

Hi,

yeah but with exeltek.com.au I didn't see any possibility to send it to NZ. You can choose NZ as country but nothing works after that, just the pick up option looks to be available... strange ... :-)

It will probably work on the current city 1800MHz 4G band, but Vodafone will very likely have 700MHz 4G (band 28) sites starting to go live by end of the year. The phone your ordered may or may not be the correct variant.
