I've managed to install it on Android (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.metservice.kryten&rdid=com.metservice.kryten) but I seem to have an old version with the old "look-and-feel", not the one shown in the screenshots.
Says it's 1.2.2 though...

Same here - I have the paid version, but no update available and the old version :(

I just updated from the old version and it worked fine.

OK so how come it says it's 15 degrees is Wellington central and 17 in Miramar? A 2 degree shift over that distance?
and 79% humidity in central Wellington but only 67% in Miramar?
This seems a bit strange to me.

There is an iPhone widget and it looks quite nice. The app also has a sidebar slideout when you tap the screen that shows a very basic 5 day forecast... quite a nice feature I found by accident. tap the "morning afternoon evening" portion of the screen.

Downloaded, initial impression, looks great.
I have no problems with the advertisements. If an app builder, in this case Met Office, determine that an app with ads will generate more revenue over time than a paid version, then end of - it's their app, their business, their call.
If it's not your thing, or you don't like it, don't install it. Simple.

Can't say I agree with this approach. Companies generally (should) welcome constructive consumer/customer feedback. The great NZ "like it or lump it" & "don't complain about the bad service / fly in your soup" and "follow the rules and shuddup" attitude doesn't really feed into a culture of quality improvement.
Surely a better alternative is "If it's not your thing, or you don't like it, make suggestions to help improve it"?

Fair point, and couldn't agree more, but some of the posts lamenting the lack of paid option are more moaning than suggesting (IMHO), hence my post.
josephhinvest: And my hopes of being able to disable traffic cams were briefly raised, then dashed, when I saw this settings screen. I can reorder them, but not disable. Please let me turn off Traffic Cameras and Metservice TV. Pretty please.
Yes I want to disable certain screens.. as well..
And arggh.. I hate ads.. you have to have a paid option..!
And its an improvement.. but hope we see regular significant improvements
Met Office, and other app developers, may not be offering a paid version as the one-off purchase cost doesn't yield as much as advertisements over time.
Maybe an option could be a subscription pay option for a set period - eg; $1.99 per annum. You pay $1.99 for a year's ad-free use, after which you can either renew or swap ovr to the free ad version.
Does Google offer option this for app developers?

@ dafman - agree re: the desire that criqtique should be constructive. Onwards and upwards!
