t0ny: Any point getting it in the US? I am here for a week and my son threw my iPhone in the pool

If you get it in the US you will get the snap dragon version.  Some people say they are better some say they are not as good.  Just remember they will be harder to root etc however.

Anyone else who ordered through Harvey Norman get an email about the order? Is that standard for a pre order? It said its on back order and I can expect it in approx 19 days.
It better be available for pick up on the Friday!

Hey guys

I've been wanting the Orchid Grey. Which is apparently exclusive to Spark.
I'm with Vodafone. I decided on not settling on phone colour this time round like I had to with my last 2 flagship phones.

I spoke to A spark staffer in store last weekend. She said the Note 8 won't be locked to a specific network. That some phones are locked but the Note 8 won't be.
I didn't completely believe her though.

Anyone able to confirm this?

Ok the Note 8 will not be locked, however if you get a spark note 8 the battery might not be as good on vodafone as a vodafone note 8 (but won't be to big of difference). The reason for this is due to network setup and the firmware setup.

The lady at spark was also correct "some" phones are locked to a network, these however tend to be low cost phones (sub $200) and 9/10 pre-pay phone packs.

Harvey Norman also have the colour you are after (which could be the spark firmware phone).

There is my dilemma..

Ive settled on either phone or colour with my past 2 phones, decided I wont do that this time round.

Im set on the Orchid Grey. I was looking at either buying it from Spark or Harvey Norman. Harveys deal is the best on this colour.

But your comments on the network/firmware set up does cause a bit of concern.

Has anyone done this before & found issues? Bought a Spark phone to use on vodafone? or am I worried over something minor??

All Phones through official channels in NZ are the SAME phone. There is no chance buying a Spark Orchid Grey will any issues on VF that a Black VF phone wouldn't also have.

There is a difference from my understanding, vodafone and 2 degrees has that data network setting for battery life set to yes but spark does not have it enabled on their network, I just can't remember what it's called.  The amount saved is not that much however.  But @networkn is correct you should be fine with any sold via official channels.

I know with my s8 when I was testing the different firmware that the battery lasted a bit longer with spark firmware on spark.  AU and vodafone firmware still worked but battery did drain a bit faster.

It's the same phone. They will all work on all networks. I assume you are talking about fast dormancy or whatever it's called. It's irrelevant.

That's it :P

Fast dormancy. Spark has it off everyone else has it on.  Unless that has changed now.

What he was asking was if there was a material difference between the phones that would prevent one bought through one outlet working on another outlets network,  and so long as they aren't parallel imported, the answer is NO.

Can't imagine it'll be hard to change the rom from one provider to another so I wouldn't worry anyway, but if it does bother you just flash the correct providers rom through the tool I forgot the name of. ODIN?
