cokeman2: Apparently the fold has been delayed from its initial date of 26th April... Says "weeks" , don't know what they could do to fix it....

I'm expecting some sort of sliding skirt around the hinge to minimise the risk of foreign bodies getting into the mechanism. It's the only thing I can think of that they could possibly do with already finished devices. Gorilla Glass for flexible displays is still at least 12 months away :(

That's what I was worried about, I would taken care of it, not peeling screens protectors off or putting near damp conditions... But you can't get away with lint in your pockets that could get stuck in the mechanism. They really need to sort that out... You think they would have done trail runs in there pockets , cause dust is always a factor

Perhaps all the design concealment they did meant it didn't get realistic exposure to the type of use that most people who buy it would have put it through?

I'm curious how Huawei's hinge handles this kind of thing now.

Hmmm. I wouldn't like a phone with a strip like this in the middle of the screen (from TechCrunch):

I like the Register's take on this - "Surprising absolutely no one at all, Samsung's folding-screen phones knackered within days"

I don't think I'd ever buy a phone with any moving parts (except the inevitable buttons) - the recent flip-up camera was bad enough in my opinion, but a folding screen just seems doomed to fail

All it needs is gorilla glass and hard shield behind the hinge for stopping debris getting in... That be Future device

At the moment it has to be treated with care which 70% are just use to trashing there phs, think they bullet proof .. Them people shouldn't even think of buying it... But sum will, then bitch and moan its broken

Why would anyone buy a foldable phone with current technology? Teardown shows why...

Unlike the dull slabs of glass we're used to, this smartphone/tablet hybrid has lots of potential entry points—and not the good kind.

To achieve the fold, the thin bezel that surrounds (and protects) the screen leaves a gap where the two halves meet. You don't notice it until you notice it ... And then you can't help but "test ingress." Don't try this at home.

This 7 mm gap doesn't seem like a huge deal, but it leaves the display exposed—so should something accidentally enter, it's curtains for the screen. (Oops.)

When closed, the screen is protected—but the spine is flanked by massive gaps that our opening picks hop right into. These gaps are less likely to cause immediate screen damage, but will definitely attract dirt.

It's been a while since we've seen a phone with this many gaps, with the industry trending away from moving parts and towards sealed slabs. It'll be interesting to see how future folding designs overcome these weaknesses.

Samsung cancelling pre-orders, have no idea when this is going to actually launch.

It's a very poor show of Samsung's R&D that something like this gets to market.

I imagine they feel huge pressure to bring it out before competitors do - but the bad publicity that this crappy product spreads does far worse damage than not having the product in the first place.

Samsung clearly didn't learn anything from the combusting Note 7 fiasco.

Come to think of it they had self-combusting washing machines a couple of years back.

I think Samsung needs a serious shake up in the quality department - they are looking like cowboys.
