cokeman2: Pretty sad nothing in the box (it be fights over chargers soon its bad enough now)might as well send in a plastic bag next time

Biodegradable shrink wrap.

It is ironic that the more budget phones can come with more accessories and features. eg headphone jack, charger, headphones, charging cables etc. The loss of expandable memory is also a big negative here. Really in NZ, these should come with everything someone needs to use it as most people would expect it would. People shouldn't then have to buy an extra charging block, especially as many people won't have a USB-C charger. Apple starts these stupid trends. All my devices have a headphone jack except for my ipad pro, and it is a PITA that it doesn't have one when I use it for video editing.

For those that received s21 ultra already, how's the battery life like? Can it last a full day without charge?

Ok, I'm convinced... time to upgrade back to the iPhone!

TBH, Samsung  removing the features that one would normally buy a samsung over an iphone is pretty risky. Then samsung charges just as much as an iphone, but they don't last as long, as the OS only get a few years of full android updates from my experience. When iphone can get 5 years of updates these days. My SE is still getting updates and so is the 6S. IMO the iphone looks to be better value over a longer period of time.

My old Note 8 (soon to be handed down to one of the Kids!) is still getting updates after 3.5 years for what its worth. I do agree though, when you spend that much 5 years of patching is not that much to ask for.

I popped into 2degrees on my way home from work and looked at my options, as I want / need (kind of need, but not really) to get a phone that can handle dual-sim, so that I can have my personal and new work number on the one phone. as far as Samsung goes, apparently only the current Note 20, and the S21 range can do this.

2Degrees are also offering up to $800 trade in for my Note 10+ in good condition, if purchasing an S21 +or Ultra, or $700 if purchasing an S21 Standard.

Do you think this is a reasonable value for the phone? I could quite likely get more if I sold second-hand, but do I really want the hassle of dealing with a second-hand phone sale?

Depends on your use style... I remove it from the charger at 7:30am, use few times a day between Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, email... now (08:09pm) it has 20% still.

Damn, that doesn't sound very good to me. How does that compare to the phone you were using before?

I've just found out tonight that I can actually purchase directly from Samsung using my new job's email, utilising the Educational pricing. I thought it was only Students & teachers but no, it's any staff member that has a .ac.nz email address.

Score.

S21 Ultra (30% discount) + Earbuds Pro (45% discount) ordered.

Then I can sell my Note 10+ seperately and not be too stressed about having to do it in any certain timeframe.

Interesting that the S21 Ultra uses a new type of OLED with lower power consumption

hmm not too bad considering this lasted a whole work day, what's the SOT on that usage? Quite promising as I don't play games on my phone and its mainly used for those apps you mentioned.. Thanks for letting me know..time to order!

I had a Galaxy S10+ before, and in that case I would've had to charge it before 8pm for sure... but yeah, S21 ultra is a bigger phone (More RAM, new CPU, etc), so I expect it to use more battery...

First day using the S21 Ultra, normal usage for me including about 1/2 hour of calls. Came off charge at 7am and now its 11.5 hours later on 76%.

On the topic of cases, I got the Samsung leather case and it's beautiful.  Really nice in the hand and aesthetically doesn't add much heft.  I recommend it.  Also got my usual selection of dbrand skins on the way.
