No & no. :)

Looks like that app works with bluetooth as well, though.

Update 4.4.2 applied this morning.
Speaker (notifications anyway) louder.
Camera certainly faster.
All good as far as I am concerned :)

Got the 4.4.2 update this morning too, defiantly notice the volume is louder. Also battery seems to be running more stable/level when on standby, not sure if this is due to the update or because I switched the runtime to ART last night.

Upgraded to a Nexus 5 from SGS3 yesterday. Grabbed a 32GB from the Aussie Play Store. So far so good. Phone runs extremely smooth and overall pretty damn happy with it.

StocK Android without all the junk is so nice.

Deciding between the Nexus 5 and the LG G2.
Got a stupid question hope someone can answer

If i get a phone from oversea, or parallel import, can I still get OTA update when connect to the NZ telco networks?

Say if i get someone to get a LG G2 from Aussie, will I get the kitkat update when they release it overseas?

G2 or Nexus 5? hm... hard to decide

Yes you will. The advantage with a Nexus is that you can easily download the latest OS version from Google and sideload it yourself anyway. (actually quite easy to do - much easier than non Nexus devices generally). If the latest Android versions is important to you then I'd go with a Nexus.

then what about OTA update?
is it dependent on the service provider?
or the phone manufacturer
would a parallel imported phone have OTA?

I just got mt N5 yesterday, brought over by a rel from Australia. As soon as I connected it to the Net I received the OTA notification and I went through it. So far the phone is good but haven't put a SIM in yet.

As an aside, I see LG and Google has released a minor modification to the phone in the later production runs with larger speaker grill holes, a flush mounting SIM holder and less loose power button.

I guess those of us who go early suffer early adopter syndrome!

Anyone else notice the default me contact picture has changed from grey to blue in the 4.4.x updates?

Looks out of place compared to the old grey one

The manufacturer pushes out the updates. The telco approves the updates before the manufacturer pushes them out.
If you got a overseas device the release of updates would be based on the country/telco that the phone is originally from. You would still get them

Hello All,
just to provide info on wireless charging and cases with the NEXUS 5.
I have the white Nexus 5 32GB( from Becextech.co.nz), absolutely loving it.
Ordered 2 Metrans Air Box qi chargersfrom Trademe(CBAY) that work brilliantly, cost about 70$ each and are also compatible with the bling bling case from SPIGEN, Slim Armor($35). Looks good with drop protection and nice champagne and black colour.
Have qi charger at work and at home so never any battery anxiety, and easy to drop on with case to start charging.

Happy Happy, merry xmas

Actually that is not true for the Nexus devices, at least the ones bought from google play.
On a Google Play Nexus device, the update is pushed directly by Google, without any operator intervention.
We could see this from the 4.4.1 rollout. The (lucky) Nexus devices got 4.4.1 as google was rolling it, while the operator specific Nexus 5 devices in US (T-Mobile...etc) got the updates later, after the operator approved them.
