Disrespective: Has anyone got their 4.3 rom to be rooted? I've just spent a few days trying the new 4.3 stable google edition roms and have settled on this one but can't get root to apply. All CF-Auto Root does is revert my recovery back to stock. Thoughts?

There's a few pre-rooted GE ROMS on XDA... that's probably the easiest way. I'm still running GE 4.2.2 until I find one that's not too custom.

I tried that devs ROM when 4.2.2 came out and found it horrible... I won't use his stuff again. (unless I wanted to update nearly daily).

I would use the Google one halfway down this post as I'm using his 4.2.2 since release (leak) and haven't had one issue!

What are you all gaining by using custom roms?

Mine isn't really custom, It's the Google Edition ROM they released on the Play Store in the US. Basically a nexus but with all the grunt of the S4.. I'm not a huge fan of touchwiz and the bloat it comes with. The GE ROM makes this phone so fast it's not funny!

I read about that. Upside, and downsides. I turned off the touchwiz animations like one of the guides said and it's plenty fast for me :) Too much hassle even after a couple of days to lose all my customisations.

Playing with tasker tonight, it's an interesting program. May take a while to really get the hang of it. Needs a better guide I think, or maybe I should try a youtube tutorial... generally don't like them but may be practical for this program.

custom depends on the dev the kernel and whether its designed for battery life, under/overvolting etc or themed. Basically its about getting what you want out of your phone not what samsung think you should have.

Only downsides I've found are the SMS app has no line return/enter key and the camera doesn't save to SD. Fixed SMS with an app, and all my photos auto-upload to Google+, where I have 125Gb of storage, and I delete them from the phone every couple of weeks. I can still see them in the gallery from G+ anyway.

Oh, I also installed "widgetsoid" (on the recommendation of NZTechFreak) to get my toggles in the menu back.

networkn: I really want a custom rom, but I really don't want to have to reinstate everything after a wipe.

When I went from fully stock to one of these rooted stock roms I thought I'd lose everything, but it was a no wipe install.  Nothing was lost, and I had no problems.

Yeah, see i've tried a few of those that say they're rooted but really they aren't... I was using that 4.2.2 rom but like 4.3 now that i've had a taste so don't want to go back, heh.

Is there any way to get your downloaded apps into alphabetical order? That's a huge oversight.

When in apps click the options Key (soft key bottom left hand side) ' view type ' then you have 3 options

2 of those is ' alphabetical grid or list '

I did not know about this option until I did a Google search after reading your question

That's a nice way of saying "google it dummy" ;)

That works in apps, but not in downloaded apps. Since all apps are downloaded I'm not really sure what the distinction is anyway.

I have heaps that I downloaded in the apps section that can't have been factory installed. Wellington Transit, Snapseed, Sprinkle (a game I bought), Swype, Stuff app, etc. If I could move apps from downloaded into apps that'd be a good workaround.
