networkn: There is no way to compare an Upgrade which is a very very complicated task compared to starting a project on hardware already designed to run a specific OS. You need to take into account all existing applications and data and make sure it works for millions of exsting customers.

Would you prefer they released it today and found your device bricked or your data corrupted, or rather they didn't bother with your data at all and wiped it so they had less issues to deal with?

Samsung are a huge company. You'd think they would be on top of this by now

Well - Got fed up with waiting for samsung to roll it out to our region so I went ahead and installed it manually. Its actually amazingly easy (I've flashed phones etc, but never android) - Downloaded the official firmware for my GT-7510, download Odin, put the Tablet into recovery mode (Hold power and volume down) and clicked PDA in Odin, selected the firmware file and clicked start, less than 10 minutes later I'm running a snappy ICS official Samsung build. Could not have been easier. I used the video and links at

The guy waffles a bit but everything is covered. No rooting required, I went from a stock Honeycomb to a Stock ICS hiccup free.

The two reasons I bought a Samsung were 1) I got a cheap deal - 2) At the time it appeared they were very proactive in keeping their devices up to date. Sony seem to be doing far better on providing updates for their handsets than Samsung unless you happen to be running Samsungs current flagship offering.

Hopefully ICS improves the experience as since buying an Ipad 3 I've rarely used the Samsung

Haha i found this quite funny. Why update flash update to ICS when you can flash upgrade one step more to JellyBean. Thats what i did on my Galaxy Tab 10.1 and it runs perfect.

Haha i found this quite funny. Why update flash update to ICS when you can flash upgrade one step more to JellyBean. Thats what i did on my Galaxy Tab 10.1 and it runs perfect.

Fine if you don't want an official Samsung Rom - The reason I upgraded is i personally think android is unstable and crap (I know, flame away) - Brand new clean Galaxy Tab and the browser crashed two or three times on the first night. I borrowed an Acer tablet when they were first released, it was a demo unit but I factory reset it. Downloaded the Facebook app, worked well, installed the facebook widget and it crashed constantly. I went to ICS to give Android another crack, I didn't want to install a dodgy third party firmware and have crashes as a result. A quick search on JB for Galaxy Tab 10.1 just shows a bunch of CyanogenMod releases that list all of the things that don't work, front camera, error dumps when plugging in HDMI etc. There may well be a functional one out there but I'd rather have something that works.

Everyone ups Android because its more "open" than IOS, granted Android are quick to introduce new technologies but things just work on IOS, on Android the app store is full of complete crap - Many developers put half the budget into their Android offerings of the IOS equivalent (NZ Herald was a classic - Beautiful app for IOS, Mobile Website shortcut for Android). And before anyone mentions the new maps on IOS I love them for one reason, they show all of the roadworks and road closures in Christchurch - Google maps would quite happily send me down a road thats been closed for 2 years due to the earthquake so on that improvement alone I'm happy to wait a while for Google to release their own app and the Apple community to weed out the bugs.

I really wish Android was better and I accept part of my bias is simply that I owned an IOS device before and Android one - Samsung etc are making some beautiful hardware but I had to restart my Tablet or crash out of apps nearly every evening I used it - Since getting my Ipad 3 I've restarted it 2 or 3 times since I got it on release day - I do get the occasional app crash but you simply run it again, no reboot needed.

No it doesn't but realistically ho often do you use the front facing camera. Everything else works fine and works fast.
I didn't need the front facing camera as i would use my laptop for skype or something.

Maybe this is something that you might find useful, but not for me, hence the update to Jellybean.

I have to say that although I it has been a bit buggy and a little laggy on the whole it has been very stable, nothing like what you are describing. I have had to reboot maybe 3 times in the last year.

The tablet has been brilliant for skype when used in the family. Just pass the thing round the group.

I agree, tend to use the Ipad for this but in terms of Skype a Tablets a Tablet, unless it doesn't have a front facing camera of couse. But I suppose you could hold it backward and stand infront of a mirror to see who you are talking too?

So how about Samsung store? Understand not working if you download the italian rom?

I don't know if you mean Samsung App or Samsung Hub but they both appear to run. I've never bothered with them personally.

Hmmm very strange... I hardly ever restart my galaxy tab running rooted stock ics... it just works. Also my GS3 never gets restarted either... that's running CM10.

Could it be something you've done? IOS6 can't be modified/customized so can't really be broken... whereas android is highly customisable, and can quite easily be broken if you don't fully understand what you are doing..

I do however think that Samsungs first release of a product works but could be made more efficient and faster.. their second release - in this case ics, is a huge improvement... at least with the galaxy tab anyway.
