The more I read about this the more I think I'll just stick with stock 4.2.2 for now. Once the Samsung 4.4.2 ROM comes out I'll wait for someone to strip Knox out then I'll use that.

The old saying... "if it's not broke..."

I only went GPe as I hate touchwiz since they bloated the S4. GPe was ok, but, meh... I want my phone to work 100% always, no compromise. 


That's why I bought the Sony!

I've been so used to swiping to get a screenshot that i wondered why it didn't work on Echoe KK. Then i clicked that the screenshot swipe is a Samsung feature.

I've been on Echoe KK 1.1 and 1.2 and both times my camera is FC'ing on a regular basis and I can't figure it out. It's bugging me to the point I may move away from Echoe KK to try something else. All is is perfect though.

I'd like to belive Samsung 4.4.2 ROM isn't fare away, but given how long Samsung have taken with others, and particulay for NZ markets, I would not expect this anytime soon..... (Samsung feel free to provide me wrong!)

also if anyone is interested, I solved the CM11 battary issue by doing a complete wipe and reinstall, battary life is back to normal! and so far no other isses to report....

I'm running Omega 17, no problems with it at all. Quite snappy and battery life is fine.

I imagine so. Omega is reasonably close to stock. Do a backup and give it a go. I'm not entirely sure what Omega comes with by default but that's what I use. Any particular reason you want to run stock, assuming Omega's default is not stock?

You install kernels separately to ROMs? Or they don't come with their own kernel?

Yes, they do come with a kernel, be it stock or custom. Afterwards you can prowl around for compatible kernels, most of which are flashable through recovery, others through Odin (mobile or desktop).

Potential reasons:

1. Extra customisability. Some kernels allow you to tweak the bejeebuz out of your system, squeezing maximum performance or battery life, or balancing both, or pumping up audio volume, or tweaking how the CPU ramps up/down depending on system load (called governors), potentially over-clocking too, etc. etc.

2. To feed an addiction for those so inclined.
