My yellow compact is on a plane between Hong Kong and Sydney right now, if I don't get it tomorrow I will on Monday.

Bet it didn't cost you $999 either.

What are they smoking over at Sony?

$999 for a phone with a 4.5" hd screen 2GB of RAM, year old processor!

I was planning to stick with Sony, but the flagship phone is a bit big for my liking, and the compact is a bit steep for what it is.

Might convince me to head over to Nexus.

Is there only Black color at launch? was interested in looking at the Gold or Green before making a decision.

Are there any freebies from the Sony store? I remember when I bought the vanilla Z they gave out free Bluetooth speakers with the phones. The Sony store in Australia is offering free cover cases for their Z5.

Ah Rats! And I was about to offer to pick you up one in Sydney... At the very least I was going to troll a pic of me with one in hand...

My views (except when I am looking out their windows) are not those of my employer.

pretty high prices for something that will depreciate incredibly fast.

Atleast with iphones they have good resell value, and samsung's though to a lesser extent.

Sony smoking some serious crack at that price.

Can get an S6 for the price of that Compact. A FAR FAR superior phone in just about every way.

Depends on your priorities though, after having a waterproof phone, I'm not sure I could easily convert back.

Right now I don't care if my boy has my phone in his gob, and if its dirty I run it under the tap.  I don't know if I could go back to having a stroke every time a drop lands on the phone when it spits, fearing a warranty void.

Nah, its just retailers here got the S6 before our dollar went down the toilet. It's not just Sony increasing prices of stuff, Apple increased iPhone prices by a further $200 and also Mac prices 20% overnight, Microsoft surface Pro 4 m3 model costs about the same as Surface Pro 3 i7 model.

You bet when the S7 comes out, there will be a hefty price increase.

With hefty price increases becomes buyer resistance.

If you hold onto it for 24 months, then biff it, at $1,000 it has cost you around $10 per week, the equivalent of about 2 cups of coffee.

That's not too bad for a device that lives by your side for 24 hours access to the internet, phone, music, camera, calendar, email, messaging, flashlight ...
