By my math (and correct me if I am wrong) these are how the two phones and plans differ:

2degrees
Plan 49.95 + Phone 49 = 98.95
98.95 * 24 Months = 2374.80
2374.80 + One off fee 29 = $2403.80

Vodafone
Plan 59.99 + Phone 37 = 96.99
96.99 * 24 Months = 2327.76
2327.76 + One off fee 99 = $2426.76

Granted, you get an extra 2 gigs of data with Vodafone and a free SD card. However, for those looking for the cheapest plan, surely 2degrees would be a better option?

Ah sorry I only took into account the phone repayment. I didn't feel that that would affect someone already on one as I was on one with 2degrees, the extra 10 on Vodafone plan I didn't feel made a dent in the day to day.

The 99 deposit didn't bother me as it was a quiet weekend and would have been used on a busy one anyways.

But that's all very relative to me so yeah... That's where I'm coming from.

45x24 = 1080

58x24 = 1392

About 200 less

Agree. My only two negatives, touchwiz (I prefer pure android) and I wish they had adopted a matt metal finish like the iphone or Nexus of late. The high gloss glass feels a little dated.

Apart from these, the specs are great.

My much loved and trusty Xperia Z2 has developed a hardware fault with a failed strip of touchscreen, so its time has come as it limps along until the 11th.

Can someone explain what the issue is with the expandable storage? I've read in the media that it isn't combined with the 32gb onboard and that had negative effects or something?

As far as I can tell, the Marshmellow treats adopted storage as part of its internal storage. A plus for apps that don't support Ext SD card storage (looking at you Zinio) I guess. The downside (as claimed by Samsung) is that you can't then treat the SD card you have inserted as removeable storage. I guess there are some people that load their cards with music and video externally and then insert them in the phone, but taking the sim tray out all the time to achieve that in the case of the S7 is asking for trouble (imo).
So the storage in the S7 is still expandable but the OS won't treat the extra as internal.

Can it record video to the SD? Note 4 only records to the inbuilt which is tooo small to be any use at 4k rates.

What I'm not sure about is whether Android 6 on the S7 changes any of the SD access privileges.

What I'm not sure about is whether Android 6 on the S7 changes any of the SD access privileges.

Google Play music and Pocket Casts (podcasts) have settings to store downloads on SD card instead of internal. My expectation is that these will still work with the S7 as it functions as a traditional SD card which should be no change over historical functionality.

I don't mind too much that they haven't included adoptable storage as traditional SD card support works well for me as I can swap the card between phone and tablet when travelling.

One possible reason why Samsung haven't included adoptable storage is that the speed of SD cards is below their internal memory and they may have been concerned that adoptable storage may have negatively impacted the speed of the OS (with punters blaming the OS, not realising it was SD related).

The thing that puts me off is that being a student it's important for me to be able to get it on a plan that I can pay off per month rather taking a big hit. Correct me if I am wrong, but this isn't possible with PB Tech?
