This post is not specific to any phone but to the topic of VoWiFi.

I have recently struggled to contact two old friends who have returned home from overseas since I have been using VoWiFi.

Calls would ring and then seemingly drop off.

When a call went through when out driving I realised that there was no WiFi so I assume now that VoWiFi only works to "digital" phones, not old analogue ones owned by my "old" friends.

HectusErectus: Anyone had experience using the NZ Post Youshop thing (or a better drop ship service) so that you can get the website deals etc?

YouShop don't do Australia apparently.

@robfish Not correct only your end of the call is going over Wi-Fi calling then the other end of the call is just a normal call

If you can replicate this then it is another issue

As you say that is not a Pixel handset and not related to this topic. Please create a new topic and feel free to link it here. I can offer an opinion and I'm sure others will assist to diagnose the specifics.

What would be the differences between the US and Global versions? Is it only the mmWave with the US version?

Sig:

sdavisnz:

Yeah 5g works on both

You want me to test vo-wifi on spark?

Hi @sdavisnz

Did you get a chance to test vo-wifi on the pixel 7 with Spark by any chance please?

Hi,

Been testing for a few days to make sure the handoff is working. I have found handoff from vowifi to 4g/5g is good and does not drop the call.

Can others with pixel check modem version is the same as I'm running with one NZ and spark.

I have a friend in Australia who can buy the Pixel for me. He can send it over with someone who happens to be travelling to NZ at the right time, or he can ship it with Aus post.

I'm thinking about GST, and would prefer to avoid paying both Au and NZ GST. In theory anything purchased overseas over $1000 is subject to GST and duty when bought into NZ. In practice, is it likely to be picked up if it's bought back by a person, or couriered by an individual rather than being sent by a company?

From JB it would be about NZ$1425 in express postage, about NZ$1175 after the $250 gift card. If it gets caught for GST in NZ that goes up to about NZ$1650, NZ$1400 after gift card. Direct from Amazon USA it would cost NZ$1500 shipped. So it looks like AU is a better option either way.

Tell them to take it out of the box and despise of the packaging and it will be fine.

Thousands of people going through customs, I suppose the are looking for sealed boxes for resale, I don't know?

You might even get away with it if still in packaging.

That would probably work, but I want it in in box!

Hi, No,

volte works on one NZ, but no vo-wifi/wifi calling.

I'm perplexed as to why the modem still references Vodafone now. Since they have a new organisation name.

I really want a Pixel 8 to replace my Huawei P30, which is still a perfectly good phone that I'm happy with, but it hasn't received an Android security patch since May 2022.

I was thinking of ordering one from Amazon.com, but I guess if you import a phone yourself and it develops a fault, you're kind of screwed? Shipping it back overseas for a warranty repair doesn't seem practical.

Shipping anything with a battery overseas is expensive as you have to use the expensive courier option. It cost about $100 to ship a Kindle back to the USA, but Amazon paid for that.

Australia is a lot cheaper. They still the older pixels but haven't listed the 8 yet. Give it a few weeks, or have a friend in au get it from JB Hifi and send it over.
