Yes, the Desire is very desireable indeed. Best phone I have ever had. Just look how active the "Anybody Interested in Getting An HTC "Desire thread is :P

And yes, there is an app store on the phone itself (called the Android Market) where you can download apps and games directly onto your phone. No need for a computer. Although a WiFi connection would be handy when to get faster download speeds :)

Have you guys taken photos and videos on the Desire? How does it rate?:)

Also, is the OS pretty stable on a daily basis?

Photos and videos are nothing to write home about. Generally above average for photos, although colour saturation is a bit on the low end of the spectrum :)

Coming from an N95 8gb, video is a bit disappointing, framerate being quite choppy, but here's hoping HTC rolls out the OTA update soon which will enable 720p video recording! :P

Has anyone managed to find the Nexus One photo gallery app and put it on their Desire?  It looks way better than the desire one. I only just got mine today, so a bit of a noob... can you do this without flashing the ROM?
I couldn't find any useful info but did only do a quick google... (getting tired!)

Cheers,
Tim

Yup, I've got it on my Desire. And no, you don't need to do any flashing. Although it doesn't integrate with the Desire fully though (ie: clicking the "open camera" button in the app crashes the app).

Although it looks flashier than the Desire gallery app, personally, I prefer the native Desire one, because the N1 gallery app takes forever to load your photos. It's good if you're showing off a few photos to friends, but I wouldn't use it for daily use.

NZtechfreak: It revolves around your Google account, of which your email is a part, yes.

I believe there is no problem with adding several IMAP/POP accounts.

Gmail itself is handled differently, its automatically set to 24/7 push by default, but you don't have to use it that way if you'don't want to. For example I have my Google account set up on the phone, and my Calender syncs through that (so that CallTrack works, it automatically backs up my call logs to my calender), but contacts/email go through Exchange sync (since HTCs exchange email software is better than the inbuilt Gmail app IMO, one of which is being able to set my Push hours).

Thanks NZtechfreak! Exactly what I was after and more. Time to shuffle funds and place an order.

Cheers

Anyone having memory card issues that can compare to this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=6304277#post6304277

I plopped my brand new 16gb microsdhc class 10 card in the phone and it seamingly worked for a while... then wham!  i get stung with a symbol in the top left of the phone that looks like a microsd card with a little cog to the right of it and the sdcard data has gone.

Now ...  the original card did work fine but, testingit now, both are doing it. :(

I've got the data needed off the card on to my lappy backed up so thats no biggy - so I've tried different methods of formatting but still nothing

anyone else?  I'm at my wits end!

ps. oh and i should add that the symbol I'm seeing in the top left isn't in the manual that i can see so far ... sigh ... do i have the first reported dud from htc?

Jerry, I vaguely remember NZtechfreak saying that you need to copy the file structure of the original card across to the new card somewhere before you use your new card. May be unrelated, I dont know, but its either in this thread or more likely near the beginning of the original "who wants to buy a Desire thread" he started.

I'd try taking out the card and reinserting it, that happened once to my card - somehow it became "Unmounted" (a setting from Settings -->SD card before removing the SD card). Reinserted and restarted and all has been well since.

Probably worth also copying over the original cards files, including hidden and system files, just to be on the safe side (although I would think the phone should add them all to new cards automatically anyways).

Re: camera/video - definitely pretty average. The saturation and contrast can be fixed though - it remembers user setting until you change them again (even after powering off the device and rebooting), so I've just set my sat/sharpness slightly higher.

Thanks to you both for the suggestions.  After a restart this morning its now got the same symbol there but I have full access to the card again - now I'm just confused!  But ... at least its working!

And when i used the new card I made sure io was viewing hidden system files etc before copying everything, had a couple of .folders in there but nothing too exciting as far as I could see

I'm going to paroose the manual better today and see if I can find this symbol... its getting on my nerves.

Oh, and I've also tried a reformat from the phone its self - but seems to be the same outcome as doing it on the pc

stay tuned

Is the storage card icon you mention one of the ones listed here, near the bottom of the 2nd list? http://nimbu.amorvi.com/2010/04/htc-desire-new-user-guide/

Thanks Revo,
Don't suppose you have a link for a how-to guide on adding the N1 Photo Gallery app to the Desire?

nah sorry :(  Thats a direct screen grab from the manual which i'm making my way through.  Its most similar to the "Storage card is safe to remove or storage card is being prepared" (second from the bottom) but swap the circular symbol in it for a cog/gear.

I will take a photo of it tonight and post it to show what I mean

Man ... the FM Radio is sweet on this phone :P

Yup, the link BigMal posted earlier is your one-stop location for all your N1/Desire tweaks :)

Which can be found here.
