I think the main issue is 320x240 QVGA (U8150) vs 320x480 HVGA (P500) not the screen size difference. I would never use an Android device that is QVGA, it's an awful experience.

A lot of the apps don't like the boxy squash, like the marketplace!

Meh at the end of the day maps, twitter, facebook, foursquare all run fine.

Even Game Dev story is fine.

It's the lone man apps that can't handle it.

And the marketplace...but that has always sucked

Yeah you probably shouldn't pick up a higher end handset then :)

Everything is much better at a higher resolution, browsing full webpages is actually possible (if not pleasant), you don't have to scroll about quite so much and the keyboard doesn't hide quite as much of the screen.

I'm on HVGA (320x480) at the moment but have my eye on WVGA (480x800) handsets as they're starting to come down in price.

Darn i hope huawei get it's s**t straight and provide a release date and most importantly price.

From what i've been reading and watching (phonearena reviews particularly), the x5's speakerphone and headset sound quality is really small and flat.............hope NOT.

Btw, does it have av out feature ?

Judging by the reviews, 3.5mm headphone jack, but no HDMI unfortunately. One of the differentiating features of the X6 (apart from the larger screen, slightly faster CPU) is that it will have HDMI out.

I'm starting to get really annoyed with 2Degrees. It appears that their right hand doesn't know what their left hand is doing. I've had the 2Degrees store in Sylvia park tell me that they're having training on the X5 on Thursday and it will be in stores in the first 2 weeks of Feb with a price point of just over $500.

BUT

On the other hand their call centre still maintains that the release is a couple of months away.

SAME COMPANY, SAME DAY, SAME QUESTION, TWO DIFFERENT ANSWERS! Not very professional at all.

Yup. I'm leaning towards the Sylvia Park 2degrees response as well.

Unfortunately there is nothing on the market, or that has even been announced, with a large 480*800 screen at anywhere near that price, even at $500. The next closest you come are some of the models from last year (eg Acer Liquid) which are stuck on 2.1 or 2.2 using older lower power processors, or jumping up a level to the Galaxy S (now officially stuck on 2.2)

I did mention to the people at Sylvia park about Victor Xu's announcement of the USD$250-300 (NZD$350-400 price), and asked them to bring it up during their briefing.

Is mobicity any good in terms of warranty and customer service (not ignoring u after purchase etc) ?

Because their pricing seems pretty good and they offer 12mth free warranty.

It still doesn't have a price but there's a possibility that it'll be lower than 2degrees's store price on release

hmmm I really need a new phone and am a bit tired of waiting for the never ending promise of the X5. Dont mind at all going up in price, but there just seems to be so much cr*p with andriod phones in NZ at the moment. Nothing is getting upgraded Nxus S could have been nice, but to many missing features like expansion cards. Galaxy stuck on 2.2 blah blah blah.

If you guys could buy this weekend your first android or smart phone, at any (resonable) cost, what would it be and from where?

Maybe I should start looking at the new windows phones?
