I tried the A200 at Noel leemings and found it to be really really slow, was surprised it was so slow given it is dual core 1Ghz cpu, i guess the cpu used must be fairly crappy compared to the other dual core cpus, It is still on special for $399. I just picked up a 10.1" HP Touchpad 16gb 2nd hand with case from trademe for $270 + postage, so hopefully that will be a faster tablet than the acer a200.

They have CM7.1 Alpha 3.5 and CM9 Alpha ?0.6? with Dual Boot -> Web OS / Android.

Jaxson: Have they got android on the hp unit now? What version?

Why would you ever need to put Android on it? Web OS does a pretty good job. Why not just buy an Android tablet if you want Android OS?

The hp tablet is better spec for the cost and higher build quality. When I get it I can compare it to the a200, which costs 33% more, $300 vs. 400. I tried to find another a200 at the mall bc the noel leeming version was so laggy but I they didn't have one at dse or bondnbond.

Why - to gain access to the Android Apps that I like etc. And will HP continue with updates/support of the Touchpad now they've bailed out of that market?

The Touchpad with WebOS was known to be very laggy. Read the reviews. The operating system itself seems like it may have been ok, - it did well when it was loaded onto iPad hardware. Android may offer the last chance to maximise the hardware of the touchpad device?

Why would I buy this instead of a native Android device? As mentioned above, because you get access to much higher spec hardware this way for a lower price.

The HP Touchpad route is a very good idea, thanks for suggesting it kiwijunglist. You got a very good deal on the one you got. I'll keep an eye on trademe and have posted a WTB ad here on Geekzone. Now I'm off to research where they are up to with the Android implementation and what works/doesn't work now on the HP unit. And here I was all set to hit purchase on the Ainol Aurora....

$400 for an aurora is pretty expensive considering they can be brought for US$ 160 including shipping. $349 for a Paladin is crazy, they can be bought for US$ 99 including shipping. The V99 can be bought for just over US$ 200.

I see the ad on their website but I dont see it saying it includes a dock at that price.

Yep, read the reviews. If you do a bit more reading you'll find the main cause of the laggyness was due to the system logging that WebOS does with the factory settings. Turning this off and doing a few other tweaks fixes most peoples concerns.

If you read through the Touchpad threads you''ll see comments from some users that whilst their intention was to port Android once they've used WebOS they've decided not to bother.

I've played with the odd Android tablet, while they are very nice, for me there's nothing I've seen that would convince me to swap WebOS for Android, in fact some when I've used Android I've missed some of the features of WebOS. Each to their own I guess.

Granted more apps for Android, though most of the popular stuff seems to turn up for WebOS.

Yeah no worries, I had a look over that lot today and it seems people are quite happy with it and that the laggyness (technical term there) can be overcome somewhat by adjusting the settings as you say. Either way you get a lot of bang for your buck there. An android tablet is where I'm heading though.
