Apologies if this has been answered elsewhere (I have searched) but, I need to know whether to get a 9500 or a 9505. What are the pro's and con's of each? I'm on telecom if that makes any difference and I live in Hawkes Bay (so presumably no 4g for a long time!!)

Thanks

Comparisons here and here, second link's better. 9500 has a few advantages depending on what we get in NZ, 9505 has LTE/4G which you might get eventually or use when travelling.

Disrespective:

Disrespective: Has anyone got their 4.3 rom to be rooted? I've just spent a few days trying the new 4.3 stable google edition roms and have settled on this one but can't get root to apply. All CF-Auto Root does is revert my recovery back to stock. Thoughts?

There's a few pre-rooted GE ROMS on XDA... that's probably the easiest way. I'm still running GE 4.2.2 until I find one that's not too custom.

I tried that devs ROM when 4.2.2 came out and found it horrible... I won't use his stuff again. (unless I wanted to update nearly daily).

I would use the Google one halfway down this post as I'm using his 4.2.2 since release (leak) and haven't had one issue!
Yeah, see i've tried a few of those that say they're rooted but really they aren't... I was using that 4.2.2 rom but like 4.3 now that i've had a taste so don't want to go back, heh.

4.3 was a PITA to root apparently. I still haven't re-rooted my N7 because my PC wont find it when it's in fastboot, and the other laptop I did it on last time has become a hackintosh. Damn me and my boredom!!! ;-P

Buy local if possible... Samsung agents in NZ won't touch a parallel imported phone under warranty if it has issues. And the warranty is 2 years.
So that leaves you with the 9505.

If Telecom NZ have approved the update then it's over to Samsung Korea when it will be pushed out

I just double checked - my Telecom GT-9505 is on Android 4.2.2. I only bought it a couple of days ago, maybe it comes on the newest ones?

If it shows April then that's the original 4.2.2. firmware, but a 300 odd megs update adds some fixes etc, which is what Voda have just dished out to their S4 handsets

Unless you are talking about the update which allows the apps to be saved to SD card S4 came with 4.2.2 out of the box

Nah there's some other enhancements to 4.2.2  like some work on the camera, and fixes to Touchwiz (i think)

Anyone know how to mount the S4 as a disk? That'd be really handy for MediaMonkey, so ratings you apply on the app can be copied back to the PC.

Also, when I mount the phone as an MTP device (ie plug it into windows via USB) I can't create folders on the CF card. Anyone know how to fix?

Alternately, another good music player that can sync with windows. I tend to chop and change the music on my device, so keeping ratings and organisation is handy.
