Keen to hear of anyone's experiences (now or in coming weeks) of moving from iPhone to One - considering leaving the Apple bubble for this phone, so would like to know how people find the iOS - Sense jump...

I had an Iphone4 up till December, then a Nokia Lumia 800 till last month. HTC One since yesterday.

First impressions:

Android OS and HTC Sense are great - definitely better than boring old IOS for me. Too early to say if I like it better than Windows OS yet, but so far so good.

I must note that my impression of build quality isn't quite as hyped as most of the reviews I've read... Its great yes but coming from the Iphone I'm not exactly frothing at the mouth over it. I love it, it meets expectations - but anything less and I'd be whining.

The back is curved, feels nice in your palm - I worry a little about scratching the camera lens tho so maybe I'll have to get a case afterall.. Not sure yet. The overall size is really cool coming from the Iphone - its bigger but not toooo much bigger.

Speakers are amazing, its super fast, general user experience super intuitive. Haven't done a proper camera trial yet its awesome indoors and such but I want to see it out in the real world on a nice day before I say much on it.

Integration with dropbox is neat - the native note app syncs with evernote, the blinkfeed thingo is really cool... depending on how spammy your feeds are. I may have to turn twitter off from it as its out spamming everything else.

Google Now is freaking awesome too... My impressions are skewed by it being my first android as there are a lot of features and integration that seem so great simply because I haven't had them before. The 'new feature' joy makes you rate things higher than is fair imo.

Like the above poster, I too have come from an iPhone 4 to this, albeit without the step to WP8 in the middle.

Would agree with everything said above. Build quality is excellent, materials feel great in the hand and the jump in screen size takes a little bit of getting used to. Mainly due to the increased width of the keyboard. This is probably because I had had my iPhone for 2.5 years and had got so used to the KB I could text without having to look at it and have about 98% accuracy.

Importing your stuff (contacts, calendars etc) is a breeze with the HTC Sync software, simply back up your iPhone to your computer with iTunes and then plug in your HTC and it does it all for you in about 10 minutes.

I am still in the honeymoon phase with this device but I already have a number of apps and options I have taken advantage of already. E.g. F1 live timing app for free, you may not be an F1 fan, but this a great app, the cousin of which costs $45 (yes $45) on iOS. Other things like being able to use a PS3 controller to play games is great.

Havent worked out how to get my music off my iPhone as the computer that I have it synced to is dead. Would love some suggestions on this.

Overall, I recommend this 100% to any iPhone user. No features of iOS that I miss or that cant easily be replaced or replicated with an app.

In fact I have recommended this to two of the partners in my firm and both of them plan to get one (coming from iPhones too) and one has got theirs already after having a play with mine yesterday.

Hoping that my case will be waiting for me when I get home tonight!

Also looking at one of these. But I was given a really nice Ralph Lauren wallet for my birthday so I cant justify spending that much on a case right now. Looking for something a bit cheaper, it doesnt have to be genuine leather though.

bmt: Just got back from a Telecom store. Was told they had received HTC One's today, asked if I could get one. He asked if it was on plan, I said no, and he went out back. Couple minutes later he returns with a cordless phone in hand and tells me they are not available for pre-pay purchase, only a plan, and mentioned there wasn't much in it for Telecom (assuming profit margin wise), and pre-pay might be available in about a month.

I asked Telecom about this and here is the answer:

"The HTC One is available to be purchased outright from launch (today). We’re currently investigating further as to why customers have been receiving the wrong information."

Yeah I thought it was quite odd considering it was a Telecom store.. they are not really franchises are they? All profits would go to Telecom so don't understand why an individual store would refuse to sell outright.

The person I spoke to on Telecom's online chat said she called the manager of the store and was told that was their policy, so I'm guessing the person I dealt with went back and asked them too.

Just picked up my One from Telecom St Lukes. They had only been given 3 - and all 3 were reserved for persistant customers like me I guess. Looks like they are scambling for stock to meet demand. Even the staff there are amping to get one as soon as they are allowed.

Wow!.

Build Quality is 100% perfect. No gaps. Tight as a tight thing. Pleased I waited for the Telecom stock issue.

man I am jealous of all you who have their phones. I pre ordered and paid full price with Noel Leemings on 21st March and still nothing. Same thing happened with Windows 8 tablet from them except then they did contact me saying delayed. This time nothing despite emailing them. Coming to conclusion to no longer deal with them

Funny thing happened at store. Woman beside me is holding an S4, obviously impressed with the gadget as a salesman extolls the many impressive virues of the super Samsung flagship.

Being a fussy dawk I remove my new One from box and inspect for flaws while paperwork is being completed. She notices this gleaming android artwork with the brilliant sceen and immediately asks to have a look. One hold was all it took. She is now impatiently waiting for her own bit of smart phone porn from Mr HTC. The sales rep probably wasn't too pleased I expect.

Gosh, some people are just so shallow I find.

Exact same thing happened while I was in Vodafone getting my sims sorted this afternoon - big money contract owners getting S4s, then fawning all over the aluminum beast.

The fact I had two in my possession at the time came in handy!

So yeah I got both my phones, having to pay $1700 total rather than $1600 was a kick to the teeth but after getting my dustbin lid sized hands on it I can't even remember spending a bunch of cash.

Its beautiful, and super fast. The complete lack of lag is just so good.

Will post my full thoughts when I get my eyes off it, but for now I am smitten, and should you be in the market for a new phone you simply need to hold it - its pretty much the methamphetamine of the phone world it only takes one hit!

I'm pleased to hear you found HTC Sync Manager good. My experience with it was a nightmare, it kept crashing and I've given up on it. What desktop OS are you using?

Ended up holding the power and vol down buttons for well over 30 seconds well it seem like it anyway and ended up with a screen with a several droids at the bottom and instructions at the top in small writing I scrolled down to the reboot option with the vol button and selected that using the power button and it came back to life.

I hope this isn't a regular occurrence, having a phone that quietly dies on you isn't much use even if yhou can bring it back to life. Battery was still 65% so it wasn't a flat battery.

Oh that's a horror scenario glad it's all ok.

Would be good to know if any apps or launchers had been installed etc. Prior to this happening. Are you on the latest firmware as well?

Using the stock launcher and any apps that have been installed have been there for a few days now. The phone has the latest stock firmware.
