A huge number of factors will impact signal reception. I have 1 bar of 4G signal where I sit at my desk. If I take 10 steps away, I'll have 3 bars. Concrete, metal, anything dense, EM fields - they can all have an impact. Outdoors you are somewhat less likely to run into sources of interference compared to in a large building.

if I download a 1.6gb tnz rom and flash it with odin will I lose everything on my phone?

I flashed that firmware over the one that came on my phone, the previous version. I didn't lose anything - apps and data were there after I flashed it.

Yes I used Odin. My phone's rooted so it won't get updates automatically.

the good thing about custom is you get the better updates as they virtually happen, waiting for telco's to get the update off samsung is excrutiating

what is the latest telecom ROM?

I downloaded XXUBMG4 and ripped the modem and flashed it only for it to say baseband = MD8

(there is a possibility it didn't flash as I used a galaxy s2 darkyrom app to flash)

did you flash through custom as it won't work you need to use Odin and twice. Untick "reboot"when it finishes boot into download again and reflash using Odin then check when it boots up.

for those of you interested here's an app under development that lets you set notifications so they show up on lock screen and you can go direct to them, this one is based on Moto X.

thanks for the tip! wow what would I have done if I flashed it once and created a bootloop!

just realised something - I have no recovery!

I rooted used adb method, then for some reason I restored CWM from my s2, today I tried to backup and found there is no recovery ...

any ideas?

restored form your S2?

choose a recovery, TWRP, CWM or Philz touch and flash through Odin (select pda)

I'm currently using this as Philz can't be used with latest AOSP/CM 4.3 roms

Here's a good way to remove 800MB of crapware from your phone quickly. I suggest the medium version, and remove Chrome from the config file
