Hey guys, I rooted my S4 9505 back at the start of release. I'm rerooting as I lost it with the last update. I'm using CF Auto Root, it boots into recovery and it flashes, but it still doesn't root, even though it now says "custom"

What am I doing wrong??

I did see "write protection enabled" a bit stumped, any help appreciated.

I had a problem with battery usage yesterday - my phone dropped from 100% to 20% in one day, instead of the usual drop to around 60%. Google services took most of the power. I turned off location services, uninstalled a bunch of Samsung products (chat, video, TV). Today it seems much better, google services has used no power at all.

Just a little tip in case anyone else has the issue.

Hey guys, can you help? Not much of a geek myself but considering an S4. What I would like to know is I've heard they are dual SIM but after a bit googling it seems that isn't available in NZ? Is this the case? I need to carry two phones daily, personal one and work one, so would like a dual SIM phone so I only have to carry one.

You'll probably have to buy one parallel imported. A quick google also showed the S4 mini dual SIM on trademe.

Thanks. Prefer the bigger screen for writing when out and about.

Just bought one of those dual sim adapter things for my S4. I'll see how it goes tomorrow.

New member to the forum here :)

Are the S4's sold at electronics retailers locked to their advertised networks? Because Warehouse Stationary has the "2Degrees" Galaxy S4's on sale for $150 cheaper than the "Telecom" ones. Will I be able to switch back and forth between any of the three networks without hassle if I want to? Because when I got my current phone, an LG P500 two years ago, it was advertised as 2Degrees so I asked the salesman at Dick Smith if it would work on Telecom which I was on at the time and he said yes. It worked fine in Rotorua where I bought it but when I left and came back down to Wellington it would no longer connect to the Telecom network.

And also for anyone in the know, why are phones so much cheaper on these obscure, mostly online only stores like Mobile Station that show up on PriceSpy. It's really tempting to try them out... guessing they're parallel imports though?

Help would be much appreciated :)

Yep, parallel imports online. As for being locked to a network I expect you can get around that, since you can easily root the phone and completely replace the operating system, but I'd wait for someone more experienced who's actually done it to chime in - don't take my word for it.

The S4 is quad band as I understand it and able to work for all NZ Telco's. The main difference with Telecom if the modem software which is tuned to suit the Telecom bands. As a side note I am Telecom but not using their modem software and its fine although I am in Auckland.

Yes they are parallel importers and some may be shonkie but most have physical stores you can visit so the CGA applies. Expert infotech on the sure seem to have good feedback so worth a shot.

Once you take into account GST and shipping parallel importing is barely worthwhile. I looked into it and ended up buying from Telecom. 2degrees plans are cheaper, but even in central Wellington coverage was much better with Telecom - far more cell towers.

Do you know where most of these online store parallel import from? Expert Infotech is still cheaper with GST and includes a one year "warranty" although I saw somewhere that Samsung in NZ won't actually deal with parallel imports.

No idea sorry, probably varies depending where they get a good deal. The store may have to have local technicians, or send the phone back to the original country for repairs.

Eh, doesn't seem worth it to be honest. Think I'll just take up Warehouse Stationary's $850 offer even though I saw they had it for $800 maybe a month ago :(

Hi all

I have just acquired an S4 that I think was originally on 2degrees but I'm on telecom. My mobile data performance has been quite poor. I'm wondering if I need to update the modem? or do I need to add APN's? At the moment the only APN showing is the TelecomDefault. Should I also have TelecomData?

Cheers

Could bea number of reasons. You could Flash the telecom modem in about 5 steps and not worry anymore
