Just got the SMS from vodafone nz announcing the M9 is available but looking at the store specs there is no 700 mhz which surprises me
(only 850/900/1800/1900).

Those are the 2G bands, the M9 definitely supports band 28. :)

I was in Noel Leeming Sylvia park yesterday and they had the M9s in stock there. I had inquired and they told me that they can sell them as of 7/4/15 (yesterday) - the guy had to check their system for the date when they can start selling them. I saw they had 8 in stock in their cupboards.

If anyone is keen on purchasing them, check your local Noel Leemings - they have got stock already and they can sell them to you.

For those who are interested - I asked about Galaxy S6 and they said they havent received any of those yet.

Everybody seems to have dropped their price to $1100. Didn't think the $1250 price would survive when the S6 was $1100. I have at least now had a chance to hold and play with the M9, S6 and S6edge. All three appeal in the hand so it will probably come down to price, interface and camera.

I've had a few days with the M9 now and can now offer the following observations.

I really haven't notice the unit getting any warmer than my M7. The reverse in fact. I don't claim to have thrashed the living bejasus out of the processor but have had it running multiple apps for extended periods and it has not got noticeably hot at all. Reports of them cooking are just way overblown.

Camera: I understand a software upgrade is on its way but I am reasonable happy with its pics. The bloody pics are way to big to email easily I know that. Video does seen a little jerky on the screen however. I'm pretty sure the M7 video seemed a bit smoother.

The 3.5mm jack on the bottom is a bloody good idea.

The power button continues to take time to locate accurately but I expect that's just a matter of time. I confess I only just today discovered that two quick taps on the screen livens and deadens the screen so perhaps that will not be an issue going forward, but locating the button further up at the side near top would have been better, imho.

The screen is good enough for my old eyes. I really fail to understand the hoopla over 4k screens, Can the human eye even tell the difference?

I'm not a huge fan of the bling on the side. Seems a little unnecessary and kind of cheapens the overall design a bit for me but I'll live with it.

God I love Sense UI. THe single biggest reason to buy an HTC over Touch wizz. Its just the best skin - (after WebOS)

I was interested to read that HTC are blaming slow sales on the use of the 810 processor. But to me it is, in the following order, the camera, the camera and the camera.
As an M7 owner everything else about the phone is fine by me but HTC's decision to up the megapixels but ditch OIS and use a smaller (comparatively) aperture was a cost based decision that has backfired.
Sales are obviously slow with Noel Leeming already discounting the M9 to $999. Considering they initially had it a the inflated price of $1250, to be discounting it already speaks volumes to me.
I am going to replace my M7 at some stage this year but after 6 HTC handsets I will have to consider other options this time. What it will probably come down to is an M9 with a crap camera for $800ish or an S6 or G4 for $1100+.

True, it has improved it, but from what I have read, it doesn't overcome the stabilization issue or the low light focus problems does it? I would be interested in your real world experience with the M9 because reviewers tend to be OCD with things like the camera. I don't use my phone camera for any arty stuff so what is more important is clear focused images in all lighting conditions. And the ability to just pull my phone out and take a snap and to record some family sporting events, indoor and outside, on video. From what I can tell the M9 video tends to be quite jerky, once again some real world experience would be appreciated.

This thread seems to have gone pretty quiet for a while and I'm wondering if it is indicative of how the M9 is faring.
I was encouraged to read that camera performance had been improved by a firmware update. However, the latest problem seems to be the sapphire glass cover over the camera is cracking due to thermal stress. Has anyone here experienced this? HTC won't acknowledge that there is a problem (yet) and there have been varying degrees of success overseas in getting the phones replaced under warranty. From what i can ascertain sapphire glass is super hard to combat scratching but that makes it more susceptible to failure under tension/compression cycling. I would have thought that HTC would have this sorted since it isn't the first handset of this construction they have done.
I had resolved to get the M9 over the S6 but now this had given me pause for thought.

Had the M9 for a coupe of months. I use it every day for work and personal use. No temperature issues, no paint flaking issues, no camera issues, and no camera scratches or cracking. Phone sits on desk at home and work and is in my pocket when out or driving. I get 2 to 3 days use with most things turned on and syncing. M7 use to get at east 2 days.

I would rate it the best HTC smartphone ever. I upgraded from an M7 which my wife now uses and finds a lot better than the HTC Desire HD she used to use.
