dafman:
Kopkiwi: Sony smoking some serious crack at that price.

Can get an S6 for the price of that Compact. A FAR FAR superior phone in just about every way.

... except for battery life, removable storage, touchwizz (arrgg..)

Battery life has improved quite a bit since the new dooze mode was added to the new Echoerom. Storage, 64GB I've not yet used half.

TW isn't a problem. No lag, good features, nice themes.

hazza87: Up on the Spark website now:

Also saw them putting up posters for the Z5 in the Lambton Quay store this morning.

Yikes, it's a Spark exclusive! I'm on a term Vodafone plan (with subsidised handset) so there's goes my plans for a Z5 upgrade from my Z2.

I believe Sony will be selling them direct from Friday (Z5 that is) so not a Spark exclusive for very long

- Vodafone will have the Z5 compact.

Compact no good for me, I want the Z5 and can't move away from Vodafone ...

OK, just had a Z5 fondle at Spark, Lambton Quay. One very nice piece of kit. Lighter and more compact feeling than my Z2. Z5 display looked lovely – more saturation and pop than my Z2 (and I checked it was set to auto, not full brightness). Slightly raised lip feels nice and would help protect screen. Matt glass back is a big improvement. Thumb naturally fell on fingerprint scanner.

Overall, in hand, it felt very premium – and I was more impressed with the actual handset than I thought I would be. Nice work Sony.

Quite interested in the phone now that it has arrived here.

Some tough choices need to be made about which device to get, or just keep what I have (M7).

The Labour Weekend deals (Im guessing 20% off) is only going to make me purchase something sooner than I really should be.

Just purchased a nice Yellow 32gb one from overseas. Was going to get Nexus 5x for same price. But reviews of that did not seem so flash. So going with the Sony instead.
Also love the yelllow colour :-)

Will be a nice size change from my Note 4.

..and Noel Leeming have the Z5 for the same price as Spark

https://www.noelleeming.co.nz/shop/cameras-phones/phones-and-gps/smartphones/sony-xperiaz5-xperia-z5-smartphone-black/prod142985.html?ref=pricespy

shame I'd already bought from Spark as I'd prefer a non branded phone, I thought as it was advertised as "Exclusive" no-one else was getting it

It's quick and responsive, good camera, good phone call sound quality. I had a Z1 compact before this and was a bit hesitant about the size, but have found the larger viewing screen much easier on the eyes and I can still get most the icons with one hand. Not the 2 days battery life under heavy use but easy a day and a half. I wanted something waterproof as I work outside and the expandable memory for photos and video. I should have been patient and waited for the price to come down, but I'm pleased with it so far

Have they fixed the issue of photos under a lightbulb?

I've loved my Z1 but it annoys me how yellow photos get if its under a lightbulb.

Anyone here waiting for the Z5 Premium? It is now released in Taiwan. I wonder how long it will take parallel importers to get them in.

I returned my Z5C because of the camera. Low-light videos had a very visible blue tint. Low-light photos weren't as bad, due to Sony's processing (in 8MP SA and Night Mode anyway). Also, the fingerprint scanner wasn't that accurate for me.

The size and feel in hand was very nice though.
