Anyone know whether you can change the text colour for the icons from white to black?
I have a fetching Blue Note Records theme but the wallpaper makes the icons almost invisible with white text!
One thing I do miss is the physical Silent switch on the iPhone.
So easy to silence without needing to unlock or anything.
Battery life so far is good. I have 26% showing and have not charged it for about 24 hours. I have not been living on the phone in a teenager sort of way but I have used it for newspaper reading, playing a game or two, internet browsing, some (gasp!) phone calls, a few photos, some You Tube videos and so on.
I have noticed that the cell reception seems less good than the iPhone. I base this entirely on the signal strength meter not on any actual measurements etc but the iPhone would show between 3 and 4 bars in most places in the house (certainly in my office where I am writing this) and the XZ shows 2 or 3 and flicks between an H (whatever that means) and 3G.

Ok, just had a play with XZ at Spark.
First impressions, the hardware is beautiful. I like the slight curve on the glass edge and the ever so subtle lips on the top/bottom front edges to protect the screen. It feels very premium and the metal finish is outstanding. Pity we don’t get the blue option.
And the Sony UI is the cleanest and closest to stock I have seen. It was fast and fluid. Probably the first android phone I would not need to use the Google Now launcher. Only minor irritation is that Sony haven’t utilised the two step notification pull down.
And the audio enhancements –audio quality is something I miss from my Z2 which was my best phone to date for listening to (compressed) music.
Pity about the Spark infiltration. I see that it’s even found its way into the email app with pre-built in option to add an Xtra account.

The audio is good - there are various options for improving compressed music and even one that somehow listens to your headphones and customises the sound to them. No idea how that works, but it sounds leagues ahead of any iPhone I ever heard.

Best of all, it comes with an audio improvement device not found on iPhone. A 3.5mm audio jack!

I have to say that is a nice inclusion. I do wonder if the iPhone 8 will have one once again, as I'm not sure that was Apple's most popular decision but perhaps they just don't care....! I guess by the time the 8 arrives there will actually be a choice of headphones with the correct plug on.
Quick battery life report.
Charged yesterday at 1530 before heading over to Wellington to see Bill Bailey.
On until approx 2am when I got home and went to bed. Then off until 0900.
On from 0900 to present time 2251.
Battery now shows 22% remaining.
Usage - several calls totalling probably an hour of talking, numerous texts, half a dozen photos, browsing the net for a couple of hours, checking/posting Instagram, download and install 2 apps, send and receive email.

Lionel Richie walks into a Bar ... Barman: Why the long face? ...
I've found Sony to be pretty good when it comes to providing updates. Well certainly when compared to the Samsungs I used to own anyway.
A bit more plastic than I had anticipated ...

OTOH modern plastics are very resilient materials.
