Well, what I can say from my research that obviously GST is 15% and then there's the admin fee of around $52 NZD...  getting JB HiFi Australia to deliver a 128gb Pixel 3 and a Pixel Stand to my friend in Melbourne added a cost of $1,604 NZD to my credit card bill. So maybe that is all you pay... or maybe you end up paying the extra bit, too.

And as someone else said, if I was heading over there myself I'd definitely consider grabbing one and claiming the GST back! I'm loving it so far - the camera is ridiculous and I'm loving having pure Android. I've made a conscious decision over the last two years to really dive into the Google ecosystem after that announced the first Pixel, and now I basically use everything Google offers so it's great not having random junk on my phone that I'll never use and can't delete.

Checked with DSE/Kogan and apparently their NZ site does not include GST and they don't handle customs for you. If you buy a 64GB Pixel 3 from them you'll probably have to pay $255.14 in tax plus, as the price is over $1000, you'll have to fill out a form with customs to get a client code too if you don't already have one.

So their real price is probably $1604.97 plus a few weeks delay. Not such a good deal.

That doesn't seem right. Why does it show gst included in the price at checkout?  Also, from https://www.dicksmith.co.nz/dn/direct-import/

Will I have to pay additional GST?

The vast majority of our products incur no additional costs for duties or taxes - the price on the website is the final price. In the rare instance additional duties are required, you will be notified at checkout.

Odd. Their checkout included the warning "Please note that certain taxes and duties may be levied on importation into New Zealand, and you agree that you are liable to pay any such taxes and duties." on the delivery address page so I sent them an email asking for clarification and got this:

Hi David,

Thanks for contacting us and my apologies for the delay in reply.

Orders containing over $400 worth of imported products may be subject to GST and duties.

The New Zealand Government collects these GST and Customs charges, meaning that you may be required to pay an additional amount once your goods arrive in New Zealand.

If this is the case for your order, a compulsory checkbox will appear on the checkout screen to ensure that you are aware of this. As seen below:

When your order arrives in New Zealand, the courier will provide you with information on how to pay these charges if they are applicable.

You may complete the purchase of Google Pixel 3 here.

Thanks for your patience and if you have any questions or concerns, please let me know.

I don't get a checkbox like that anywhere in the checkout process though so perhaps the help desk persons information is out-of-date? I did see that their trademe listings all have pretty much the same price as on their website and explicitly state GST is included. I get the help desk person to double-check.

I saw that same warning and contacted their support staff and received the following:

All products sold on Dick Smith will include GST in the listed purchase price.

You will find the GST included amount in the supplied Tax Invoice after the purchase was dispatched.

The help desk person got back to me and has now confirmed GST is included in the price so I've placed an order. Now I just hope it arrives before christmas as my Nexus 6Ps battery beyond unusable.

DSE Pixel 3 64gb price just updated to $1309. Getting more and more tempting, despite DSE (Kogan)'s less than perfect reputation.

https://www.dicksmith.co.nz/dn/buy/google-pixel-3-64gb-just-black-google/

Others that have ordered through DSE could you let us know when they update your order status to shipped? If they start shipping them this week I guess it should be possible to get one before Christmas...

In other news the December security update for Pixel 3 rolled out today and users are reporting a lot of well needed fixes (including video microphone audio, speaker quality, camera shutter lag and memory management).

My order lists the expected dispatch date as the 18th of December which is getting a bit close to Christmas for comfort. I'm tempted to change my delivery address to someone who I know to be around during the Christmas break who can sign for it.

But then it comes down to who they use for shipping. Element14 manages to overnight stuff from Australia - perhaps DSE will too?

I ordered a 64GB Pixel 3 XL from Dick Smith about two weeks ago for $1479. With the price now at $1439 and the phone still over a week away from dispatch, I have requested that the $40 difference be refunded, either to my credit card or as store credit.

According to clause 8.2 in their terms and conditions, I am entitled to cancel and receive a refund at any time prior to dispatch. So hopefully being refunded the difference won't be a problem. I'll let you know how I get on.

I'm a bit of a noob when it comes to importing stuff. You guys have confirmed that DSE price includes GST. Does that mean, once shipping is added, there are no other costs? No customs charges on the way in?

The DSE helpdesk said this to me:

We guarantee that you will not be required to pay any additional duties or fees after your original purchase.

So it sure looks like the price on the website is what you'll pay (plus shipping).

So next month I am travelling to India. I am planning to arrange my departing flights through Sydney just to get the Pixel from JB HiFi in Sydney Airport. Although I can also get this from India itself, but its just a lot cheaper getting from Australia after currency conversion. Does any one know if this is possible to reach JB Hifi on the airport during the transit period and how long you guys think will take to get the A$ GST refund if I could get that on the same time as well?

I think they ask you during the purchase

There is a JB Hi Fi near the Air NZ Koru lounge, but I have no idea if that is near where you'll be.

You probably won't be charged GST airside. Or at least, you shouldn't be. My wife bought a handbag at SYD from Coach last time she was there and they did confirm to her that they did not charge GST on airport sales.
