freitasm: A review unit. Will ride it today for first time. Can't wait.

Wait, so if you haven't ridden one yet, how do you know they feel better than the Lime as per your earlier post? :P

By assembling it I could feel the build quality was better. I didn't mean the ride at that time.

First ride, Johnsonville to Churton Park, return about 9km.

Very smooth on flat, nice brakes going down but wouldn't cope with Wellington hills and I had to push it half of the way back.

It did start making a noise at the end so I will try again tomorrow with my daughter, who is keen to try.

The light works well at night and the rear light flashes when you apply the brake, which is a good thing.

It needs a phone holder I reckon these scooters need to have! Or at least for the XiaoMi one so you can see the speed.

Yeah, I've bought one for my scooter, given they're only a few bucks (this one here); my concern with using it, though, is how the phone will cope if I come off the scooter!

Would probably have to assume the phone is gone unless contact isn't made to the phone eh

Maybe the collision dislodges the phone and that case does it's job?

But that holder looks like it's got a near death grip on it though

If those cheap Mi scooters have a similar power to Lime's forget about decent hills in Wellington. It will be quicker to push, not to mention hill climbing kills battery power. Much more suited to flat riding

Looks like one of these: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6VDP1mymG8k&t=3s

Phone dislodged three times in the video. I think he eventually put rubber band over it.

You had me worried for a bit!

You're right in that it's the same brand of holder as I've bought (mine is one that also has a 'rest' for the base of the phone, as I thought that would be more sturdy).

But you're totally wrong in your summary of how it performed! Perhaps you're thinking of another holder (he shows two others he's tried near the start), as the video you've linked to shows the phone well-secured, and it doesn't dislodge once despite him going over some pretty rough terrain.

So it looks like what I've purchased will work perfectly, other than the need to find an additional shim to ensure it fits the narrower bar, which is useful to know before it arrives.

Ah I see. Do let us know how you get one with that, as I will be looking for one too!

How well do you reckon they’d go on something like Ngaio Gorge Rd?

My comments and remarks are not necessarily of my employer.

I don't think they will go up Ngaio Gorge. Between Churton Park and Johnsonville the hills aren't as steep as the gorge and it wouldn't do it.

You will be happy with it. Sadly I have to send this review unit back this week. A really nice kit!

I didn't realize I wanted a electric scooter until I rode a lime and felt like I was 12 again.  Now I want one quite badly.  Keenly interested in how the Xiaomi one goes so let us know.  I am also not sure if we are about to get another gen of scooters with dual motors and dual ABS brakes and if it's worth waiting for those.
