The problem with ordering from JB Hi-Fi is you'll end up paying NZ 15% GST on top of the AU 10% GST.

I'm actually travelling to Australia in December, but I was hoping to have a new phone before I leave, so I can transfer everything from my old phone in advance and have an Australian eSIM ready to go as soon as I arrive.

I was thinking of ordering one from Amazon.com, but I guess if you import a phone yourself and it develops a fault, you're kind of screwed? Shipping it back overseas for a warranty repair doesn't seem practical.

That's why I will be ordering from parallel import.

Sig: I get the concept of a blind shipper but where would you find one and how do you trust them...?

Finding is easy

https://www.google.co.nz/search?q=buy+in+Australia+send+to+nz

Trust, it is their business they don't want to blow it. In case of loss I'd check they have usual package insurance included in the price. YouShop would have been ideal as they're NZ based unfortunately they don't do Australia so I'm less keen today. I'm still considering it not actively looking at it today.

witchdoctorgaz: And so it begins https://parallelimported.co.nz/google-pixel-8-pro-mobile-phone/

Ouch. Being ignored by Google costs an extra $489, no pre-order bonus and as usual missing features like call screening. At least they work properly here as phones now I guess.

At those prices its tempting to just try and tape my pixel 3 together a bit better and hope the screen and battery survive a little while longer, though I don't much like being so far behind as far as security updates go.

Yeah apparently if you buy in person in Australia you can claim back the GST at the airport when you leave. Then most likely you pay New Zealand GST on the way in.

If you happen to know someone traveling from Australia to New Zealand that is a good way to get a Pixel.

I had good luck with my Pixel 4, no repairs required, again having someone in Australia to help would make things a lot easier. Given how many New zealanders have moved to Australia most people should know someone I would think.

Hi Everyone,
Passively following this wonderful conversation. I did order from Amazon UK for around 2.2k NZ$ with watch 2 included.

I did have my relatives in Australia but decided not take help this time. My rationale is as below:

Pixel 8 pro 256- 1799 from JBhifi as google on takes credit card registered in Australia so again a hassle

350$ voucher will use it to buy pixel watch 2 so add another 200$

Total cost - 1999 A$ which roughly comes out to be 2060 NZ$.
Now the hassle of shipping. Cannot get them together as customs will be weary. Prefer to use DHL as they are also clearing agents for free if something messes up. Nzpost use to charge 60$ a day as holding fee for clearing items. Not sure at the moment coming back to the point. It will cost me 2200+ even getting the phone shipped via DHL to NZ plus waiting for watch which will cost Extra 40-50 and 2 shipments.

2nd point is that buying from Amazon and shipping to NZ, amazon owns your items and with any issues you can senf it back at their cost via DHL so kind of NZ warranty too.

This option is only good if you want watch as well.

Please tell me more about this. Are you saying Amazon will pay for return shipping from NZ to USA for any warranty issues? Or is that only during their 30-day return period?

I have also purchased from Amazon UK, price all up is $2257 (Inc GST - allegedly).
This is for the 256GB Obsidian and Pixel Watch 2.

Let's see how it all unfolds, delivery is set for October 27 😄

The best way to find this out would be to read their terms and conditions. Amazon is usually pretty good, if it's dead on arrival or fails quickly they would probably just replace it and probably also pay shipping.

I found this page which says:

Replace a Damaged, Defective, or Broken Item
Visit Your Orders and we will let you know what your options are for damaged, defective, or broken items.

To replace an item:

Go to Your Orders and select Return or replace items beside the item you want to replace. Tip: If your order is from a third-party seller or not eligible for a replacement, select Return Items. Enter a return reason on the next screen.
Select the item that you want to replace and select a reason from the Reason for return menu.
Follow the instructions on the screen.

A replacement order, with the same shipping speed that was used on your original item, will be created. You'll need to return the original item within 30 days to avoid being charged for keeping both the original and replacement items.

The replacement order may be shipped only after you ship the original item(s) back to Amazon. We recommend you to ship back the original item(s) as soon as you request a replacement.

I went down the Amazon UK route too, 256GB Pixel 8 Pro with the Watch 2.
Should be here between 18-20th October allegedly.

What's everyone's plans for a screen protector? Does it even matter these days?

I haven't used a screen protector in a decade or so. I do use a case, which makes me feel more confident about putting my phone done either face or camera lens side first.

I had the Spigen Liquid Air case in my Amazon AU cart but "This item is no longer available from the seller you selected", I guess they sold out. It's not available from Amazon.com yet either, "the item has not been released", which is weird. I've used Spigen for years, but I might need to change to something that's actually available.

Even better. Just talked with Amazon UK. They says it comes with 2 years warranty.

I had previously good experiences with Amazon where i had to send products back to Amazon on their cost and they fully refunded me. Sorry very hopeful and thi k its a better deal than Australia.

Is there a reason you guys are ordering via Amazon UK rather than Amazon US? They've sold out of pre-orders for the entry-level Pixel 8, so I'll have to wait until it's in stock.

Seem as though the deals on the US site aren't available to be shipped to nz annoyingly. You can order the phone itself but the phone+earbuds just says unavaliable to ship to this location.. 😔
