Adding Widgets to one of your screens.

This is handy, say you want to have quick access to something, in my case I want to be able to turn, Wifi, Bluetooth, Mobile and GPS on and off quickly.

Go to the screen you want to add stuff to, then, menu, add to home, widget, (select whatever you want to add, in my case its under settings), hit wifi for example and position it where ever you want it on the home screen.

Yep, I have WiFi and BT toggles on homescreen, very nice having them to hand so easily. The GPS one is a waste of space IMO - if you're careful about which apps and processes you allow access to GPS then you shouldn't need it at all. Apps that use GPS will turn it on when in use, and otherwise it doesn't run at all.

So my homescreen has the Time/Weather widget, enabling single click to weather, alarms, stopwatch, world clock, timer, then other widgets for Camera, Internet, BT, WiFi, Messages and Mail, along with the apps and phone menus of course. Nearly everything you use frequently right there on your homescreen. My RSS reader gives notifications in the top tray when new material is available, so thats also well within reach.

I use the generic Android widget, which has WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS, sync, etc. all in one nifty toolbar.

I'm using Gmail via Exchange in HTCs mail app (not the Gmail app). I gave the settings for manual input earlier in this topic.

You can set your schedule with that, I have Push on between 8am and 6pm, and then half hourly retrieval outside these hours.

If you go into Settings --> Accounts and Sync you can turn off the default Google Sync operation (which is by default set to 24/7 push) for Mail/Calender/Contacts individually.

Thanks, I hadnt got into the frequency settings for mail yet. Have now.

I also have the logo with a mini card top left and a cog wheel. The only place I can find that exact same logo is in the Sim Tool Kit application.
It hasn't really affected the operation of the phone but if you restart the phone it goes away, and then comes back again?

Hi ya all,
Good tips on apps in here thanks.

Here's another one... Do you need to connect to a hidden WiFi connection but the phone doesn't find it even when you set it up?

Why this isn't in the standard menus who knows but there is an app in the market that changes the SSID setting to automatically find the hidden one.

So the step are:

1 Download "Hidden SSID Enabler" in the market.
2 Set up your WiFi connection (if you haven't already) in "Add WiFi network"
3 Open the SSID enabler app and enter the SSID name and click the button
4 I restarted the phone for the change to take effect, but it may have just been slow to connect

Now that WiFi connect is found even though it is set to hidden.
