Disrespective: I had a lot of trouble rooting my S4. It would never stick. I found flashing a rom which was already rooted got me what I wanted.

Looks like I'll have to flash a pre rooted Rom. Any that do non-wipe?

Damager: Just bought one of those dual sim adapter things for my S4. I'll see how it goes tomorrow.

How did you get on? Did it work? And where did you get it from? I've only been able to find ones for iphones.

I've used these pre rooted, Odin3 packages and they haven't wiped my data before.  Theres deodexed versions as well as slimmed versions in that thread.

I'm a bit scared to do much now with the Knox security/warranty flag bootloader (similar to the rooting/custom triangle away but Chainfire et al don't have a fix as yet).  Seems you can still function but only with custom Kernels AFAIK.

Saw those El cheap ones on TradeMe and asked if the iPhone one can be used for the S4 and they said yes. It does work but crashes when you switch sims, so you have to reboot. After the reboot it's sweet. They use the Simore video, but it's obviously a ripoff product but does the job apart from the restart thing. Not a show stopper as it means I don't have to swap sims..

Cheers bro, will have a nosey at them and have a go. It appears that the last 2 generic firmware upgrades have the "irreversible bootloader" so guessing those are the two to avoid.

I have the new Omega ROM v11 and I like it, but it does something I've never seen before. New TXT message arrives it just shows "new message" then you have to open it to see who it's from and what they said..

Anyone know if it's a setting I can turn off?

try going to message app, settings, scroll down to "preview message'and see if its on. Other than that it may be another message program you are using

I didn't like the theme used on Bobcat. Omega doesn't seem as battery friendly but it's a little hard to judge yet. My phone feels hotter playing games in Bobcat.

I full wiped to get to Omega, I didn't for Bobcat (I came from unrooted stock).

I've been doing a full wipe including internal SD and things all good at moment. Had an issue with available memory but couldn't find the issue so wiped everything, must have been a hidden backup or something, also had a heat issue once or twice but all good now and bacl on Adam kernel so its running fine.

I quite like the theme on Bobcat but its subjective I suppose.

Have you seen the Knox security threads in general on XDA, looks like updates have a new bootloader

Is there an easy way to plug an S4 into a Windows 7 PC's USB port and give that PC internet access? I had my main internet connection down today, that'd have been really handy to do. My PC has no WiFi card in it so I can't just tether.

Settings --> Connections --> More Networks --> Tethering and portable hotspot --> USB tethering.

Oh nice, thanks. Does the computer pick it up automatically? Is it something I should do while I have another internet connection in case drivers are required?
